Why The Fourth Of July Is The Best Holiday

Usually when people are asked what their favorite holiday is they say Christmas, Thanksgiving or Easter. Even smaller holidays, such as Halloween, usually have July 4th beat. Independence Day is a holiday that is totally underrated, in my opinion. Here are a few reasons why I think the Fourth of July is one of the best days of the year:

1. It's a summer holiday.

This means weather won't hinder your plans by preventing you from driving somewhere. Although I love Christmas and always hope for snow on December 25th, snow means you may not be able to drive to where your holiday festivities are. Summer is great because the days are longer, the weather is warmer and the clothes are cuter. How can you not love holidays in the summer?

2. Cookouts.

There is nothing better than a good meal filled with hot dogs, hamburgers and potato salad. So many people enjoy putting their grills to good use on July 4th at the family's cookout.

3. Various outdoor activities.

Swimming, kayaking, corn hole and ladder gold are only a few of the outdoor activities people partake in on the fourth. It is so fun to play games outside with all your family and friends as a way to celebrate the holiday.

4. Fireworks.

Fireworks are easily the best part of the Fourth of July. You spend all day playing games, swimming and eating, and then you finally get to watch a spectacular show. There is absolutely no better way to end your day than sitting back and watching the fireworks.

5. It's a holiday for family and friends.

Most holidays, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, are mainly family-oriented holidays. The Fourth is a perfect mixture of your family and your friends. Independence Day is a more laid back holiday, and what better way to celebrate than with the family you choose yourself?

6. Patriotic attire is encouraged.

Although many wear red, white and blue 365 days a year, July 4th is a perfect excuse for those who do not feel comfortable showcasing their favorite American flag apparel on just a regular day. This holiday is also the perfect excuse to go all out and wear your craziest clothes to show how patriotic you really are.

7. There's always plenty of fruits and fun desserts.

On top of eating all of the hamburgers and hot dogs, you can't forget about all of the strawberries, blueberries and fruity desserts! It is always refreshing eating fresh fruits on a hot July 4th. But nothing can top a festive pie or cake either!

8. Sparklers.

As if the fireworks aren't cool enough, July 4th would not be complete without sparklers. Everyone loves to write their name in the sky, lighting multiple ones at once and seeing how long it takes for the sparks to stop. Sparklers are one of my absolute favorite parts of this holiday that you can't miss!

9. It's a day that makes us remember our freedom and recognize our country.

The most important part of the Fourth of July is remembering why we celebrate this day in the first place. It can be easy to forget how great it can be an American, but this holiday is a great way to recognize the good things that come along with being a citizen in this country.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
