The beginning of summer is always seen as this wonderful time that is full of possibilities. But, in my opinion, the beginning of summer can be a little overrated. Sure, there is the first beach day of the year, and the magic of the Fourth of July, but these events cannot compare to the end of the summer.
Now, my birthday and my annual vacation do always fall at the end of the summer, so this does slightly contribute to my preference, but the end of summer is so much more. It is the last hoorah in a way -- the final couple weeks of the freedom, sunshine and promise of summer. While some might see this as sad, I see this as a great opportunity. Since summer is fading fast, we are forced to cherish and enjoy it while we still can. The end of summer makes us live in the moment, even if it is only for a few weeks, and do what we can to make the best of our time.
The end of summer is also the time when people try to do everything they neglected to during the rest of summer. All the promises of beach trips and fun get crammed into a few weeks- trying to do everything while they still can. Because of this, the end of summer becomes busy and exciting, breaking the boredom that can hit during the mid-summer slump.
The end of summer also brings the promise of a new beginning. The end of summer, to me, was always about shopping for school supplies or getting ready for the new year at school. Part of me was always excited for school to start-excited for the new classes, new faces and new possibilities. Even now, the anticipation of going back to school is now becoming real in the last few weeks of summer.
The end of summer also means an end to super sweaty weather, humidity, excessive boredom and annoying summer jobs. The truth about summer, like all of the other months, is it has its flaws. The end of the summer might be the end of the good that it brings, but it also ends the bad. For some people, who hate summer and live for those cold winter months, the end of summer is probably 10 times more exciting than the beginning.
The beginning of my summer was great; it was full of new adventures, excitement and opportunities. However, even though that part of my summer was so great, I am really enjoying the last few weeks. To me, it is not the end. It is just time for a new beginning -- new excitement, new times. As much as we all love summer, no one wants to be stuck in summer forever. Change is necessary for us to grow, have more adventures and be stronger people. So, as the summer comes to close, don’t dwell on its ending. Remember the fun you’ve had, have a little more and get ready for fall.
