On Friday, July 22, 2016, WikiLeaks released nearly 20,000 emails which hint towards high-ranking DNC officials favoring Hilary Clinton's campaign over the entirety of the democratic primaries. In response to public outrage regarding the scandal, Democratic National Committee chairwoman Deborah Wasserman Schultz announced that she will resign from her position following the party's convention.
The emails released help add some proof to the public's widespread suspicion that the DNC strongly favored Clinton over Bernie Sanders. Not only does this shed light on the alleged #BernieBlackout in the media since the months leading up to the primaries, but it also indicates that the American people are victims of fraud.
In essence, Americans who contributed money from their own pockets to support senator Sanders donated to his campaign without knowing that the DNC already conspired for its candidate of choice to win the democratic nomination. Unlike Sanders, Clinton's campaign fundraising remains largely fueled by an elite percentage of the population who can afford to donate up to $2,700.
These emails, in addition to the fact that 359 -- 68 percent of the superdelegates -- "pledged their vote to Hillary Clinton before even a single vote had been cast," (source) illustrate a major problem with the way the nominee was chosen. It is clearly documented that DNC officials knew that superdelegates, not the people, would decide the nominee.
Following Senator Sanders' winning streak, the DNC as well as the media consistently -- and paradoxically -- claimed that Hillary has the strongest chance of defeating Trump in November. Interestingly enough, Bernie's fundraising dropped dramatically after he won seven states in a row and after DNC officials realized that Bernie actually had a chance of continuing to snag more states from Clinton.
Perhaps the biggest indicator that the DNC plotted against Sanders is revealed in this email where a draft, which would have been attributed to chairwoman Wasserman Schultz, was constructed in April announcing that Bernie had dropped out of the race. The draft contained a bold-face lie considering that senator Sanders remained an active candidate until late July.
In short, I can not admit that the Republican party has a wholly ethical reputation; however, I caution young voters to question the fraud associated with this recent dump of information regarding the DNC.
