For about a year now I've been paying close attention to the Presidential Election coming up that is less than a month away. This will be the first election where I will be legally eligible to vote in and I have to say that it has not been easy for me to process. Many people out there that are my age are in the same boat, that would be the "I can't believe it's my first time being able to vote and these candidates are my options?" mindset. And then there are those who say that their vote won't matter anyway.
To be honest, me and others close to me thought the same thing, "who cares what millenials have to say, right?" Wrong. Our generation is on the rise and it's up to us to decide who leads our country.
I've studied the debates closely and I concluded that I'm going to make my decision based on who I think is the moral and ethical choice and based on Michelle Obama's most recent speech, I asked myself how I would feel if one candidate or the other gets elected. Most importantly I will be voting for who I think will protect my rights as a woman who strives to be successful and to protect those who are in the LGBTQ+ community. Essentially I will not be voting for someone who condones sexual assault, humiliation of women, derogatory comments towards women, or someone who doesn't contribute to the rest of society and pay their own taxes. I'm voting for the candidate who is with me and many others for Black Lives Matter.
There is never a perfect candidate but there ones who are morally correct. There are ones who don't feel the need to tear others down, the right ones build others up. I will be voting for the candidate who I think is role model worthy.
