Texting is so annoying it's unreal. Especially in our 20s.
Whenever I text someone something nice, and all they say in response is "thanks!", I can't help but wonder why they hate me. Okay, so they probably don't hate me, but it's the absolute worst trying to figure out someone's mood via text message. Especially when you receive texts like:
Hi.
What r u doing?
Lol.
Bye.
Ok.
Ha.
Or, of course, the worst of all:
K.
I am sorry, but am I the only one who is totally over texting? Because it seems the older I get, the more annoying the text messages that I get are.
Whenever someone is typing short to me, I am like, oh my gosh, do they hate me? Did I do something wrong? Why aren't they using smiley faces? Should I ask them what's wrong? Nope, it's official. They hate my guts. The "." says it all.
Or, God forbid, you go on a date and he doesn't text you three minutes after the date is over telling you what a great time he had with you.
Oh, and let's not even get started with group messages. Animosity can arise in a group message in a matter of seconds.
Bottom line here is the millennial generation is basing their conversational skills on texting, and then we wonder why we can't hold a conversation face to face, or why guys have to slide into our DMs when they think we are attractive, or why we have to swipe to find out if someone thinks we're attractive via Tinder, and then if we happen to get a swipe, someone replies with "Hi" or a disgusting pick-up line. Either way, we're lacking basic and necessary conversational skills because we are limiting ourselves.
Now, I might be the only one who absolutely hates texting, or I might be one of millions who hate texting, but the bottom line here is that texting is not fun if you're a bad communicator. So before you send a boring text to someone, expect a boring reply or no reply at all. Think about how you would feel if you were on the receiving end of that text message, because no one wants to text someone or hold a conversation with someone who only replies with one word.
So put in a smiley face, make conversations interesting, and if you're too busy to text, simply say "I am really busy right now, I will text you back later today when I am not so busy." Because everyone deserves to be treated with respect, no matter if it's on a telephone screen or face to face. It's all the same in the end.
