Tattoos used to be such a taboo, but now are very common among this generation. Tattoos represent life events and memories that have either changed a life or want to be cherished. To be able to withstand the pain of a tattoo, you must have patience and self-control. This same patience and self-control is much needed when teaching children and teens, who are all going through their own personal issues.
Those who have tattoos are often judged and stereotyped as being some delinquent drug dealer who follows no rules. Those who have tattoos are creative and open minded to all people and all situations. No one person with a tattoo will judge others based on appearance. They see people as all different and unique.

No matter what grade or subject, each student is going through their own issues. Mentally, physically or emotionally, each student will endure some sort of obstacle. As a teacher, you have to be able to be open and understanding. This is one thing those with tattoos understand because not everyone is open-minded about permanent ink on your skin.
Being a teacher with tattoos helps children, and even teens, become more accepting. Young students love asking questions and will most likely ask about their teacher’s tattoos. This gives a great opportunity to explain about how each person is different and no one should judge based on skin. Just because someone has a tattoo does not mean they lack an education or cannot hold a job.
Teens are becoming obsessed with tattoos and love to hear the background stories of people's tattoos. This gives teachers an opportunity to explain life issues and situations that a teen might face one day in their life. It helps teens ask questions and receive advice on how to deal with an issue they might one day have to work through. Not everything a child learns is from a textbook, they also learn a great deal from their teachers.
Tattoos are painful and can take hours at a time to complete. One must have a high pain tolerance and patience to sit still. One must have self-control and concentration because you cannot move, scream, or yell while the needles push through layers of skin. Not to mention all the creativity that goes into a good tattoo. These are all great qualities a teacher should have. When dealing with hyper children or rebelling teens, a teacher needs patience and understanding, with some creativity to help their students learn.
Those who judge people based on tattoos must not realize how meaningful tattoos are and what all adds up to a tattoo. A reminder, a memory, a motivation, tattoos all have their own reason. Teachers who turned down a job due to their tattoos are not just losing out on a job but on a chance to teach children. Those who judge based on skin, they are the ones who are taking away from a child’s ability to grow and learn.
We have all come a long way, to the point where tattoos should not determine a person’s career. Tattoos are no longer the symbol of being in a gang or being a convict. Tattoos have evolved to be an art which has a beautiful meaning behind it. An art that shouldn’t be hidden from those who do not see the beauty in it. Teachers are artists in their own ways, teaching children not only basic subjects but how to read between the lines, how to write their feelings and how to be an individual who can make a difference.
