Why Summer Is The Best Time of Year

Many factors go into why some people consider a season over another. Here are some of mine.

Why Summer Is The Best Time of Year

Usually, people have their own favorite season or favorite times of the year because that time has features that interest or help them get away from their normal, busy lives. A lot of people often say they either favor warmer or colder weather or somewhere in between as opposed to choosing either extreme. Some of these factors make people favor one season or month over the others. In this case, my own personal favorite season is summer because of the warm weather and the longs break from school. Some popular months that are favorites among many are October or December because of their respective holidays.

With my own experience and comparison of the many months during the year, I have come up with some reasons why the summer months are one of the best times out of the year. The summer months usually run from two major holidays; Memorial Day to Labor Day, or late May to early September. It is usually filled with many more outdoor activities and therefore people become more active because of the warmer weather. Some of my own favorites for the summer include bike riding and skateboarding, which are mainly done in the summer because of the ability to do so with more free time and longer hours during the day.

Another reason why I think the summer months are the best time to enjoy activities is because it provides an opportunity to relax from anything that could be taxing, such as a job or school. The amount of time that is needed during the regular year is usually more demanding and doesn’t leave many people with a proper amount of time to get other recreational things done. Time constraints during the summer months still exist, but with proper planning, time can be accommodated to someone’s needs. This is one of the main factors unto which I believe summer to be more free and allowing compared to other months of the year.

The last factor that goes into why I think that the summer months are the best months are because there is a lot more time to spend outside with warmer weather. I enjoy the outdoors because experiencing nature and having the chance to go swimming or hiking is very appealing to me. Other months have different weather which may prevent some of these activities, especially in the northern parts of the United States. Weather is one of the bigger factors that go into considering some of the reasons why summer is the best time of year, but these are my reasons for considering it as my favorite season.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
