Why not just find a job and be happy?

Why I Started My Own Business
Cook-Inlet

With graduation looming in just months, the lengthy process of creating a resume, applying to jobs, and going to interviews has begun. Graduation comes quicker and quicker the closer you get, and getting prepared for life after college is the most important thing to do. I decided a few weeks ago to launch my business a little earlier than originally planned. I wanted to give myself a few months to make a name for myself, get my name out to people, and show them what I am capable of doing for them. I own a business that helps people manage their social media, and can also design websites and graphics. My major is Web Development & Interactive Media, and I also took Entrepreneurship, Marketing, and Advertising to help prepare myself to run a business.

So why did I decide to start my own business? There are a variety of reasons that I chose to do this. For one, it is something that was very cheap for me to do. I only need a computer and a few programs. The rest is all on me. The sweet thing about what I am doing is that it requires nearly 0 capital, and I do not have to hire anybody else. Secondly, I can do this while also getting another job. This just leads to me making more money. Owning my own business, I can work when I want which means it will not interfere with other work I pursue. Third, I love what I do. I have enjoyed designing websites since high school, and the same applies to graphic design. I learn something new every day when it comes to graphic design. I have been obsessed with social media ever since I was introduced to it. In fact, I won an award in my high school for being the most addicted to social media (Not trying to say that is a good thing, but it applies to my business!)

There is so much room for customization in running my own business. I do not have to listen to any higher ups, but merely my clients. I do not have to worry about how much I am getting paid hourly, as I set the prices. Having so much customization is something that I think is very important in my field, and having my business allows for just that. Lastly, I love a challenge. I am starting with nothing, and am hoping to grow to something amazing. Currently sitting with very few clients, I look forward to seeing how much that number increases in the coming months/years. I think it is very important to accept challenges in the real world, as it shows others how dedicated you are to what you do.

Starting my own business has been one of the best experiences I have ever had, and it has only been a few weeks. As you sit here reading this article, if you feel like you are in need of web design, social media managing, or graphic design, be sure to contact me at jclarkwebdesign@gmail.com because I promise you will be happy with the end result!

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.

11 Ways To Live The Best Life You Can

Life is full of twists and turns, but you have to keep going.

Life is all about twist and turns, sideways and which ways. Nothing is permanent, so we should take risks, and chase our dreams. We are taught at a young age many lessons that will follow us into adulthood. What we aren't taught is how to feel, and how we handle those emotions. We just have to figure them out ourselves, and that's not fun. In my 21 years of living, I have come to know that way too many people can't handle emotions, or the fact that not everyone is dead inside like them. When you're like me, and you have zero control over your emotions, it's hard to feel comfortable around people who aren't so in touch with themselves. As much as I would like to feel nothing at times, I've accepted who I am and the fact that I can cry over practically nothing. So, there are some things in life that you just have to do.
