The Dakota Access Pipeline, a heavily controversial pipeline made carry crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois. As of now, construction for it has been temporarily halted by the Obama administration after weeks of protest by Native Americans and many other people.
As of now, the pipeline has garnered a lot of attention, and many environmentalists are working hard to make sure the pipeline is never built. Green Party nominee, Jill Stein, went to the construction site and protested and vandalized construction equipment. She now has a warrant out for her arrest by the state of North Dakota. On top of that, many other major political figures have stood up to the pipeline, including former Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders.
The fight against this pipeline has been hard, to the point where protesters had dogs sicked on them and were even pepper sprayed by the companies hired security.
Clearly, it's been a tough fight and a lot of heavy hitters have added their voices to protest the pipeline as well, including some celebrities. Now, construction has been temporarily halted, but we still don't know if that halt will continue to be temporary or if the pipeline construction will continue?
Here's the thing, right now we live in a time where scientific evidence has pointed to the fact that our current style of living has promoted global warming and the destruction of our world. These pipelines get built, the oil is used to run the very things that contribute to global warming, and there is a likely chance that the pipes will break at one point or another and ruin countless sources of drinking water.
On top of it all, the pipeline runs through a Native American burial site. Would you want an oil company constructing pipelines through your family cemetery? Probably not.
Let's make it simple, this pipeline is already insanely unpopular, the company has used unnecessary violence against protesters, many big names are speaking out against it, it runs through sacred grounds, and it could potentially have a catastrophic impact on the environment and the surrounding ecosystem,
The only thing positive that could come out of this is that an oil tycoon could make some money, but let's be real, they can afford to not build a pipeline, and if they can't maybe it's time we start transitioning to more reliable sources of energy?
At the end of the day, the American people have stood up loudly and proudly against this dirty pipeline. It's time America listens to the voice of the people instead of the dollar signs in the corporation's greedy eyes.
