Spring is the time for new beginnings, fresh starts. Everyone thinks that's reserved for New Year's, but no, not really. The days start getting longer and the weather warmer and brighter. You look at everything through new perspectives, you try new things, and experience more than you ever bargained for. The weather is not too hot, but definitely not too cold. The flowers start blooming, and the birds start chirping. The sun starts shining, and the grass is greener than ever. I have experienced so much in the two decades I have been here on earth, but spring is by far my favorite.
One of the great things about spring is you can get active again. Winter is so dreadful and cold that it becomes hard to walk from class to class in the cold. But when spring rolls around, walking, hiking, and running become enjoyable. I love eating healthier and going out to walk miles just so I can feel refreshed.
Another great thing about spring is you have endless opportunities to eat fresher fruit. Fruits are one of my favorite things - ever; I could live off of strawberries, oranges, peaches, blackberries, watermelon, and so on. Everything about fruit screams delicious and healthy. I could not imagine my life without it.
Spring is the time to make changes to your daily routine. For example, if you have always admired those that wake up early but never had the motivation to do so, then wait for spring. It is always the little things and the little changes that mean so much. Spring also gives you the never-ending opportunity to laze around and walk around town, taking it all in. You can explore or just people watch. Either way, it's more enjoyable than dreadful.
Spring gives you the opportunity to see your city from a hundred different angles. It gives you the opportunity to clean your life out, get rid of all the toxic people, and get a fresher view. The temperatures are almost pleasant and the sun is out for longer, giving you the chance to do more and be active.
Spring is also a wonderful time for new concerts and the chance to hear amazing live music. I recently went to one at the National in Richmond, and the lights were brilliant. Dancing is one of my favorite pastimes so, just like any other concert, I felt right at home.
If you have the opportunity to do so, I would highly recommend going out and exploring a city (any city) and getting the chance to better understand yourself during spring. We do not give this season much consideration, and overlook it because it is so close to summer. Yet, spring is the chance for new beginnings and trying out new foods, music, and activities. A part of me wishes it could be spring year round.
