Like most people, you probably have Spotify downloaded on your computer and/or phone. However, do you pay for Spotify? I’ve asked around a lot, and surprisingly, many people tell me that they do NOT pay for Spotify. I was absolutely shocked to find out how many people are missing out on such an amazing experience! So, I decided to write about why you should upgrade your Spotify!

#1 The Basics

First, I should explain what Spotify is for those who don’t know. Spotify is like a library collection of music that allows you stream songs straight to your computer or phone. They provide a wide variety of artists and genre, which makes it a preferred choice for many music lovers. Spotify is absolutely free for everyone to use, but paying for it provides an advantage.

#2 College Students get a discount!

Spotify Premium only costs $4.99 a month if you’re a student! You just have to enter in your school information and you’re all good! It regularly costs $9.99 a month, so you’re saving definitely saving some money! I know that money is a big issue for college students, so it definitely helps that Spotify understands that and offers us a discounted rate. You could technically just use the free version, but I believe paying for it is so worth the investment.

#3 Offline Music for the win!

A major advantage of Spotify Premium is that you can listen to music offline! That means you don’t need to have access to Wi-Fi or be forced to use your data on your phone! This is probably my favorite thing about Spotify Premium! When you make a playlist, it gives you an option labeled “Offline,” and if you switch it on, it downloads the music to your phone and then you’re set! When I walk up the hill to school at UC Merced, I have crummy access to the Wi-Fi, so this option on Spotify Premium allows me to enjoy my walk while listening to my music! It’s overall a very useful option for those who don’t want to use their data, since that definitely drives up the phone bill! Also, when Wi-Fi is down, you can still listen to music, unlike other music streaming services.

#4 No Ads!!

The reason I stopped using Pandora is because I could not handle the ridiculous ads that would be constantly playing! If you get Spotify Premium, you no longer have to sit through ads! With the free version of Spotify, I believe you get an ad for every five songs skipped. This can definitely grow annoying for people, and if you’re anything like me, you’re always skipping through music trying to find that one sing to listen to! So, save yourself the torture and get Spotify Premium so you can keep listening to awesome music!

So, if you’re willing to spend $5 a month for unlimited music both on and offline, then Spotify Premium is the choice for you!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
