Why Your Sorority Sisters Are Like Your Actual Sisters

Two hundred sisters, what could be bad about that?

Why Your Sorority Sisters Are Like Your Actual Sisters

Your family may consist of sisters, brothers or maybe you’re an only child, but when you are a sorority girl, there is another family you will always have — your sorority sisters. Whether you only accepted your bid mere months ago or you’re going to be a senior, it is incredible to think that a group of women that were complete strangers to you not too long ago have grown to become friends that basically feel like your actual sisters. Maybe it’s the fact that you are all so similar, or that you aren’t, or that they’re role models to you, or that you spend a ridiculous amount of time with them rehearsing how to clap, going to socials and participating in school events. In any case, there are certain qualities of a friendship between you and your sisters that make it seem like they should have been your biological sisters.

1. Supporting eachother is a given.
Sorority sisters are like your No. 1 cheerleaders for everything in life. Whether you are running for a school position, need help with promoting your internship or just trying to ace your accounting exam, you can always count on your sisters.

2. Honesty is never a problem.
You will never feel weird about being upfront with your sisters. If that outfit looks weird, don’t worry, your sisters will let you know.

3. You spend almost every waking minute together ... and maybe sleeping minutes too.
Even though you all live within walking distance of each other, having sleepovers almost every day just seems logical. Why don’t we all live together again?

4. You just can't get enough.
Whether you’re at a mandatory sorority event where you obviously will see each other, or you’re just meeting up for lunch, breaks between class and going out together later that night, it seems you can’t get enough of your sorority sisters.

5. Their family is your family and vice versa.
Their friends at home are your friends to (even if you haven’t met them). Because in college everyone isn’t from that same state, you may never have met your sorority sister's actual family and friends from back home, but because you hear about them all the time you obviously have them all on Facebook, Twitter andnstagram. Did you see your mom’s facebook post today???

6. Girls' nights in are the best.
Although you love to go out together, your favorite part about your sorority sisters is the fact that you all get excited to have a girls' night to binge on Netflix and eat way too much Ben & Jerry’s. These nights happen way too often.

7. You constantly are planning on your future adventures together.
Whether it’s talking about that they will be your future bridesmaids or your deciding where to go on your next road trip, if they have plans, you have plans, and you never need to worry about not having things to do. Plus, doing nothing is so much better with friends.

8. Forgiveness is a given.
You automatically have to forgive them for their sloppy drunk nights and for eating all your food. Imagining being in a fight with them seems unbearable, and you know you can’t go more than a day without talking.

9. You all have the same mindset.
Duh, we’re matching for our upcoming social. Of course our dates to formal have to be friends. What do you mean you need an invite to come over? I already started making dinner for us.

10. They’ll do anything to make you happy.
Maybe you are having a bad week or are just upset about something, regardless, sorority sisters are always there to lift your spirits. You can count on them to have your favorite candy and a bottle of wine ready to take your mind of things.

All in all, I have to come to a realization that your sorority sisters are like your actual sisters. You bicker like sisters and love like sisters. You are together all the time and know they’ll be in your life for, well, forever.

When you join a sorority you never expect the friendships that you’ll make and that you truly find a family away from home. Two hundred sisters, what could be bad about that?

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
