Why Some Alone Time Might be All You Need
Introvert Dear

There are times during one's life when it seems like problems and stresses come at you like a tsunami. One huge wave that's capable of wiping you away off the face of the earth in a flash. You worry you won't be able to handle the brute force, that the power will overcome your own. Life has a funny way of lining things up to do that.

During these trying times it always seems like a good idea to spend time with other people who we love and who will give us the support and assistance we need. No human can make it through life alone anyways so it's a great idea to reach out for guidance. Besides, a little help along the way can make the biggest differences. Other people are great at listening, offering insight, and reaching out the hand we desperately need in order to get back up on our feet. But did you know that being alone might just be better for you and your problems?

Teaching yourself to fix your issues not only let's you learn to solve problems independently, but gives off a rewarding satisfaction. "Hey, I just did this all by myself, I AM bigger than my problems." Sounds pretty good to say that, right? Of course it does, people love to be their own problem solver. They feel like they can accomplish anything, and they will. Constantly relying on support for every obstacle we run into doesn't truly help anything but the actual problem and nothing else. So next time you feel stuck, tackle it by yourself, it feels that much better, and you learn to handle it next time.

Then there comes the problems that make us want to shrivel up and never leave our houses again. These are few and far between, but they come nonetheless. Most of the time when we face these, we want to be alone anyways, that's a great start. It's what you do while you're alone with the problem that makes the difference. Take some time off for yourself. Spend some time locked away writing out your emotions, take a long hike through the woods or the city, buy a cup of coffee and read a book in the back corner table at your local coffee shop, or do anything alone that gives you happiness and relaxation. Think about solving your problems in a new environment with new perspectives. Some alone time to yourself is almost as important as human-to-human communication, it's all about finding that balance.

Don't consider it embarrassing to sit alone at a restaurant, or to walk alone on a trail, don't add that extra stress on yourself. And don't worry, no one is judging, I promise. Take all the time you need to figure life out. Turn the phone off, say goodbye for now, and let your thoughts wander. Take yourself out, you deserve it, and you alone. Taking some time for yourself to figure some things out is quite possibly the best medicine available today and the simplest to get. Don't forget that.

Mental health is very important. Taking the time to get away from the stress and pressure of day to day life means an overall healthier life. Alone time may just be the best medicine to get over the troubles we may be facing in our lives.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
