Growing up I have always shared with people that I am a writer who would love to go to Law School. But here I am completing my first year of my Masters in Social Work.
I know that my pragmatic nature jades the way in which I approach caring for others. While it seemed appropriate that I go right into law school after my undergraduate studies in English and Political Science, life had other plans. I realized that care extends beyond the clinical approach most social workers are painted in.
Care means advocacy.
Speaking out about issues people who are oppressed or underserved don't have the support to talk about. Care meant learning the names of policies and matching them to the politicians who wish to implement them. While law affects all of this, social work showed me care had a place in it too.
