Why Sleeping Is My Favorite Hobby

Napping does wonders.

Why Sleeping Is My Favorite Hobby

Remember when you were in kindergarten and there were those 30 minutes allotted for "nap time?" You dreaded it. You wanted to get back up and play and learn and socialize and run and be active and interactive. Now, you are dying for that nap time once a day. If only you could have that 30-minute cat nap in the middle of the day when the entire world around you is walking and talking and living.

This is why napping is my favorite hobby. It doesn't make me lazy or inactive or uninteresting. I'm in a leadership program, a sorority and I write for two online magazines. I am not unhealthy or unmotivated; I am just sleepy and I love the feeling of cuddling up in my perfectly cushioned bed. I love the feeling of wrapping a blanket around me, the TV and fan blocking out the noise from the outside world and creating a world of my own sound within my four walls while I drift into sleep. If you don't love sleeping just because you can escape the problems of reality for a few hours or that it is comfortable and warm, then I have some reasons that should definitely sell you on why sleeping should be your favorite hobby.

1. Sleeping keeps you refreshed and ready for an adventure when you wake up.

All I know is that after I've woken up from a power nap, I am ready to conquer the world and I can get back to finishing up a project, studying for my final or finish up on my plan to take over the world.

2. It makes you feel rejuvenated, ready to learn and ready to participate.

It is proven that after taking a nap or sleeping for a short amount of time, you will feel refreshed, reinvigorated and ready for action.

3. The more sleep you get, the better you will be able to focus.

You will be ready to ace that test and instead of pulling that all-nighter, you've taken your power nap and you will be able to study for hours and feel great about the results of your next test, all because of #sleep.

4. You can sleep by yourself or with a cuddle partner.

If you are lucky enough to have a cuddle partner such as a dog, a cat, a monkey, a squirrel, a mate, a human being or a stuffed animal, it is super comfy. The great thing about sleeping is that beds and pillows are accommodating to all shapes and sizes.

5. You can escape reality for a little while.

As cliched as it sounds, napping can aid in providing you with a platform to get away and just relax, sleep, dream or contemplate why people suggest counting sheep to help them fall asleep.

These are all positive aspects of why napping should be a hobby of yours, but if you don't believe me, try it yourself and you just may be amazed and surprised.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
