Why Skyrim Is Awesome

Okay so if your anything like me you like to play video games but you do not play them religiously because one, you do not really have the time and two, because most of the games you like to play are older games. I, personally, love my gamecube games. I love playing Sonic, Lord of the Rings, Mario, and more. I have played one of the Call of Duty games a few times on Xbox but I never really got into it. Halo was a little but more interesting but it still was not my favorite. Skyrim, on the other hand, is the best Xbox game I have ever played because you get to control your own story. Here are some of the few reasons as to why Skyrim is awesome.

Let us start with the character set up. When the game opens up you are being toted to the chopping block along with some other people whom are part of the group called the Stormcloaks (they are native to Skyrim and do not prefer outsiders that are not Nords). Now when you get off the wagon in the Imperial city the Imperial (people who want to overthrow the Stormcloaks and they want everyone to be accepted into the land of Skyrim) that is checking off the names of the prisoners asks you who you are. At this point you are prompted to pick your character. Now, unlike most games, Skyrim allows you create your character from scratch. You can choose your race which includes a Nord, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, High Elf, Argonian, Breton, Imperial, Redguard, and Khajiit. After you choose your race then you get to make facial, body, and hair changes that individualize your character. This process can take anywhere from ten minutes to forty-five minutes.

After you figure out how your character will look the game continues on. When you get sent to the chopping block you hear a strange noise a few times and then a dragon attacks. You follow one of the Stormcloaks to the guard tower where the dragon blasts a hole through the side. You are prompted to jump through that hole and then the game makes you follow an Imperial. When you get to a certain point you can either choose to follow a Stormcloak or an Imperial into the fort to try and escape the dragon attack. It does not matter whom you choose because you can choose whichever side you want to later in the game. I normally follow the Stormcloak because the Imperials are rude and they just tried to kill me. After you escape that is when your main quest begins.

Once you are out you are free to go wherever you want. The game suggest that you travel to a place called Riverwood in which you can pick up some supplies. After Riverwood, the game prompts you to go to a place called Whiterun to tell the Jarl of the dragon attack. After this dialogue, the Jarl asks you to go aid his troops battling the dragon outside of the city. Once you have defeated the dragon you absorb its soul and find out that you are something called Dragonborn. After this encounter you will be able to fight random dragons all throughout Skyrim on you adventures. The dragon souls that you absorb can be used to unlock different shouts that you acquire throughout the game. Now you do not have to follow the main quest that the game prompts. You could start exploring the land of Skyrim as soon as you escape the dragon attack. That is the beauty of Skyrim. You can play it however you want. If you do not want to do a certain quest you do not have to. This is a free play game that allows you to play it how you want.

In the game you can master magic, one handed weaponry, two-handed weaponry, or bow and arrow. There are add on packs that give you the ability to create your own house and design it how you want to, give you an additional map to explore, and allow you to fight or become a awesome vampire. You can choose to be a thief, a murderer, a quest conquerer, or a helpful person. How you play the game is up to you.

In conclusion, Skyrim is the best Xbox game anyone can play because it allows you to create your own story. I have never enjoyed a game as much as I have Skyrim. Trust me, this game will get you hooked.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
