Local businesses are an essential part of maintaining your local community. Supporting local businesses is a great way to invest in your communities, by keeping your money local. Small businesses give more money back to the communities they are a part of than chain stores. Local businesses also offer quality products and unique products that can't be found in chain coffee stands. This is especially true with coffee shops, local coffee shops offer quality coffee that you can’t seem to buy anywhere else. Red Star is a local coffee stand that offers exceptional coffee that is much different than what you'd find at Starbucks.

Red Star is a ravishing local coffee stand in the Moscow/Pullman area that embodies the community it is a part of. Red Star has a large drink menu with unique specialty drinks. They also add new drinks to their menu on a regular basis that make try something new exciting. An advantage of Red Star being a local coffee stand is when you fall in love with a new drink you are able to get it four months later. At Red Star, you are able to get a pumpkin spice latte in the summer time.

The atmosphere at Red Star establishes and maintain a strong sense of community in the stand. The festive decorations and friendly baristas creates a fun, upbeat, and unique atmosphere.

Red Star is located in a college town, near two different state university. They maintain a welcoming upbeat atmosphere and show their support both universities. They do this by representing the schools on game days and naming menu items representing the universities. An example of this are the delicious bagel sandwiches that Red Star offers. These bagel sandwiches are perfect for grabbing a quick meal to eat on the run. They named one the Vandalizer and the other the Cougar Classic after University of Idaho’s and Washington State University’s mascots.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
