Why Single Is The Best Thing To Be

If you are taken, then just stop reading now.

Often times, people loathe being single. They feel lonely, unwanted, and a lot of times desperate. This is ridiculous. Coming from a girl who has been single since her senior year of high school, I say it's the best thing to be, especially in college.

You don't believe me? Well, here's a few reasons why.

No one is holding you back.

If you see a cute boy or girl at a party, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from approaching them. You can talk to as many people as you want to and don't have to worry about anyone getting jealous or upset. Flirting is fun and there is no better time for it than now.

Sleeping alone is great.

I don't know why people hate sleeping alone so much, especially in college when you sleep in a twin-sized bunk bed. When you're single, you can spread out as much as you want. You don't have to sweat the night away from the other person's body heat. And if you're truly that lonely, get a body pillow because they're more comfy anyways.

You have more time with your friends.

You only have four years of college to live it up with your friends. When you're single, you don't have to balance your time between your boyfriend or girlfriend and your group. You never have to miss out on any plans because of date night. And let's be honest, no one likes that girl who is always ditching her friends to hang out with her boyfriend. You never have to be that girl.

You don't have to worry about getting hurt.

You're just having fun and no one can bring you down. Your heart is in your own hands and it's more than safe there. You've seen the pain your friends have gone through when things are rocky with their significant other and that's just one less emotionally draining phase that you don't have to deal with when you're single. The only time you cry is from sad abandoned puppy commercials on TV, or from laughing too hard. Take a moment to realize how wonderful that is.

You have never-ending butterflies.

You still get to experience the anticipation and giddiness that comes along with first dates, first kisses, and potential relationships. Everything is new and exciting and you don't have to worry about getting bored because you've been with somebody for so long. New flings, new sparks, and never-ending butterflies means that there is never a dull moment.

Your options are endless.

There are so many fish in the sea and you have the opportunity to sit there with your line in the water as long as you want. There are no restrictions. No rules. You can go for whomever you want, whenever you want (unless someone has already caught that fish… that one is theirs, stay away from it).

You are always number one.

You get to put yourself first. You get to do what you want, and there is no compromising.

So embrace being single. Take advantage of all the extra time you have because you don't have to focus it all on someone else. Be independent. Be thankful that you are the only person in control of your own happiness. Love is beautiful, but freedom is exhilarating.

So stop trying to find someone to complete you because you can be whole on your own. We're as young, beautiful, and limitless as we will ever be right now. Don't despise being single. Love every second of it.

*If you didn't take my advice and kept reading even though you're taken, don't take any of this to heart. I'm sure your relationship is one of the best things to ever happen to you and that's absolutely fantastic. All I ask is that you keep the PDA to a minimum. Us single people hate that s#!+. *

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
