No matter the circumstances, showing up says more than words ever will.
People will make promises that are not always kept. People say they will do anything for you, but it's to their convenience. They can apologize repeatedly but in the back of your mind you still remember the countless times they let you down. Whether it's your friends, job, or school, being there will always pay off.
The saying that people will forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel is incredibly true. Instead of telling others that you care, try showing them. Throughout life, people come and people go and that is okay. Long-term friendships last because you put in the time and effort to be a good friend in hopes that is reciprocated.
However, the only thing worse than not being there is being present, yet absent-minded. Fight the urge to check your texts, Facebook or Instagram and engage with the person in front of you.
Sometimes, we are forced to show up for things we do not want to attend. There is a reason and purpose behind all that we do. When you are feeling discouraged or down, keep the end-goal in mind and read this quote in your thoughts.
"Thank God every morning when you get up that you have something to do which must be done, whether you like it or not. Being forced to work, and forced to do your best, will breed in you temperance, self-control, diligence, strength of will, content, and a hundred other virtues the idle will never know."
Your presence will pay off in time to come. If you work or go to school- trust me, I know that you're tired in the morning. Wake up, put on some good music and make extra black coffee. You will feel better than if you had 10 more minutes of sleep. Show up, look good, and put away your personal life. Leave it outside the door you walked through.
As I am writing this during my 30 minute lunch break, it's not about how much time you have, it's what you do with your time. So make it count.
