Why Should API Platforms Be Open?

APIs (Applications Programming Interfaces) have become a very important part of every business today. Businesses are building new software solutions to address their needs and streamline their operations. The entire process has been made easy by APIs. An API is a computing interface that dictates the communication and sharing of data between applications.

When building API platforms, businesses need to make them open. However, not every business understands this, something that leads to their APIs and platforms not reaching their maximum potential. There are many business functions that can be achieved with an open API platform. Before discussing the open API platform, it is important to understand what a platform is.

What is a Platform?

A good percentage of business owners and leaders think that a platform is just technology. Others assume that it is a business model that drives their day-to-day operations. This is not far from the truth, but a platform can be described as a system that has the following features;

  • The ability to create a network of resources that users can access anytime and on-demand. This makes it possible for businesses to allocate resources dynamically.
  • It should be able to generate value through interactions and exchanges with other resources.
  • The ability to fuel innovation and reduce the cost of business transactions.
  • It should make it possible for the business to grow markets and communities to get support to streamline its business operations.

The Rapid API's platform is an excellent example of a tool that meets the above features. It acts as the intermediary between business logic and technology and makes it possible for businesses to innovate and build solutions that meet their requirements and those of their customers.

API Platforms Should Be Open

One of the major reasons for adopting the open API platform is making sure that APIs are visible and can be discovered easily together with their functional resources. This is important in ensuring that developers and business partners understand the APIs in the platform, how they work, and what they can do to make them more valuable.

An open API platform ensures that all services and assets are available for consumption. In addition, it allows developers to co-create, add value to the platform, and contribute to making the platform better to meet different business requirements.

It even gets easy when it comes to evolving the API platform if it is open. Businesses need a platform that they can view as part of their business entity. An open API platform can evolve easily by adopting new channels, consumers, and solutions over a period of time. This means that the platform can handle change and address any changes in demand, ensuring that the entire business survives over time.

In addition, businesses need an open API platform to ensure that they can bring in partners and other stakeholders to increase the business value of their APIs. This ensures that the business has different avenues of integration and development. It also makes it easy for businesses to share data, create partner applications, or even integrate business applications.

Finally, adopting the open API platform ensures that businesses are able to incorporate new elements when the need arises. For instance, a user or a number of users might require something from an existing business application. When addressing this need, businesses do not have to build the application from scratch. They can simply plug in an API with the functionality required and just update the version of the application. This is made easy by the open API platform.

Conclusion

Businesses need to make sure that they are choosing the most appropriate technology for their operations. Today, through technological advancement, businesses are able to build solutions that address the changing requirements of their customers. They are also able to innovate and automate their operations to cut costs and make things easier. This is all because of APIs. However, it is important to ensure that they (businesses) adopt the open API platform to reap all these benefits.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.
