I am one of those people on social media who shares everything. I may seem annoying, and I am sorry, but there is a reason why my timeline is filled with shared posts and content taken from other platforms. I have not always been this way; I used to think that those who did nothing but share others' content were unoriginal... until I became one of them.
It started with sharing my own content from a blog and other media-driven platforms. Back then, I shared my work to find my target audience and interact with viewers who looked at my creations and read my posts. The more I shared articles, the more comfortable I was sharing things with my friends.
I would come across funny animal videos and share them with specific friends, which grew into sharing funny animals videos to all of Facebook (sorry, not sorry for the hour-long vine compilation of just cat videos. You know you liked it). There are far too many amazing videos on the Internet, and so many amazing animals that must be seen by the world, why not share them on social media.
As time passed and the sophomore slump of depression started to kick in, funny animals just were not cutting it for me anymore. I found myself watching these videos that others were sharing and looking at pictures that littered my feed without really feeling anything. Why would I share something that did not make me feel happy?
If you browse my Facebook timeline, there are posts upon posts of inspirational quotes, motivational pictures, and reminders of the better days yet to come. It is not just for others. I share these things as much for me as for my friends and those who follow me. If sharing a motivational quote or video makes someone happy or smile, I personally think that it is worth flooding my profile.
So yes, I am one of those people who shares other's content. I cannot come up with something inspirational every single day, thus I share posts and spread creativity. Sharing posts is a way to spread content, which can make someone's day. Whether it is a blog post or news article or a reminder that you can get through the day, sharing someone's content can touch many people. By sharing on social media, you are becoming a part of impacting someone. By sharing someone's content directly from them, or sharing from someone else, you are spreading content through the Internet. There is something really neat about being a part of the great big chain of shares and likes that follows social media shares.
