Located in the good ole northeastern part of Pennsylvania, Scranton is the place to be in the fall (and every other time of the year). Whether you are hanging out with some family from here, or just passing through, here is a list of things for you to do while you are here.
1. Go to the pumpkin patch.
As generic as this sounds, you really should stop by one of two (or both) of the pumpkin patches in the area. You can go to Miller's Orchard (and also pick up some delicious apple cider) or Roba's. Ten out ten, would recommend both.
2. Look at the foliage.
Don't even try to argue with me that the foliage is everywhere. It is not. It took me five hours to drive across the state just to see some beautiful leaves change. Near Pittsburgh, the leaves just die and fall down. What kind of shit is that? So if you're trying to see some sights that will really get you goin', go to the many lookouts in the area, drive anywhere near the country and you'll probably get pelted with leaves, or if you're feeling extra spontaneous, go to any of the trillion lakes in the area. (Warning: everyone will probably taking pics, so you won't be alone...don't worry.)
3. Go on a haunted hayride.
As if the first two reasons weren't enough, you can ALWAYS go on a haunted hayride. Lucky for you, you can go to one of the best ones in the area. Reaper's Revenge has been going on for a few years now and just gets scarier and crazier every year. So if you're feeling a little dangerous, feel free to stop on by on a weekend and get your scare on. Also, come early because parking kind of sucks.
4. Go to a Scranton/Wilkes Barre Pens game.
Okay so maybe fall activities aren't really your thing at all. So instead of looking at pretty scenery, you could be looking at the inside of the Arena in Wilkes Barre. GOOD NEWS: it's hockey season ladies and gentlemen. So if the outdoors doesn't float your boat, say (cool) inside and watch your favorite guys play on the 2nd greatest team in Pennsylvania. (Sorry, Pittsburgh Pens has the number one spot.)
5. Eat some pizza.
Okay so maybe typical fall activities aaaaannnndddd sports aren't your thing. Either way, this is totally fine because you can always rely on the pizza of NEPA. It's almost a sin to pick a pizza chain pizza over a mom and pop pizza place any day here. And, if you want to travel a little farther, go to Old Forge for the REALLY good pizza.
