It is a Thursday night, I am sitting on the couch with my roommates watching "New Girl" on Netflix and gossiping about the latest drama. And I cannot help but think about how lucky I am to have these girls in my life. Depending on your relationship status, the month of February can be pretty rough, but I am here to tell you why being in a domestic partnership with your roommates is better than any relationship.
1. You are always on the same page in bed.
If I climb into bed with my roommate she knows exactly what I want: to scroll Instagram and talk about boys. There are no mixed signals or awkward encounters. And if we happen to spend the night in the other person's bed, the walk back to our bed is just down the hall.
2. You can pee with the door open.
Forget trying to pretend like you don't have normal body functions. When living with your best friends you can do what you need to do without ever pausing the conversation.
3. You can eat as much as you want.
Ever felt like you had to order a salad on a date? Yes. Ever felt like you had to eat a salad in the comfort of your own home? No. Roommates don't judge you for wanting ice cream in the middle of the night, and you can bet that they will be right there beside you scooping out a bowl for themselves.
4. It is a judgment-free zone.
You know that no matter what you do, they will always be there for you. Whether you failed a test because you binge-watched "Gossip Girl" for the ninth time, or are caught the next morning coming home from a night out, you know that your roomies will love you just the same.
5. TMI doesn't exist.
Unlike boyfriends, your roommates actually want to know all of the gory details about your life. Nothing is to gross to talk about, even if you are describing medical symptoms while they search WebMD.
6. You never run out of things to talk about, yet don't need to always be talking.
I could write an entire article about awkward silences on dates. However, this is never an issue within the walls of your apartment. It seems as if there is always something new to talk about, whether it is something that someone did or something that happened to you that day. On the off chance that you don't feel like talking, silences are not awkward between you and your roommates. Sometimes, sitting in the same room while catching up on Twitter is all the interaction that you need.
7. They listen to what you say.
How many times have you poured your heart out to a boy and the only response you received was a blank stare? Not only do your roommates not judge, but they also understand. They listen to what you have to say and know exactly what you need to feel better.

The longer I live with these girls the more convinced I become that Carrie Bradshaw was right. Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with. If you are single this Valentine's Day, don't be sad. Instead grab a glass, open a bottle of wine, and be grateful that you have the best roommates out there.
