It's been the most clicked show on my Netflix show for a while now but I rediscovered my love for it this summer. Go ahead and check it out for yourself.
Team Bughead? The endearing ship name for the romance between the two main leads, Betty and Jughead, is nothing short of epic. Riverdale is a twist on the classic small own romantic comedy genre we know and love. Murderous serial killers, evil drug lords, and underground prison fighting threaten the piece of the once peaceful town. The high schoolers take it upon themselves to solve the fateful mysteries of the town after the disappearance of one of their own. The show starts of slow as the backstory slowly unravels into a tangled web of relationships and lies. I am currently catching up on last season's drama while the current season is airing as I always do because no one has tome for commercials these days. Watch it on Netflix and you're not left hanging on the edge of your seat although Riverdale has a way of always keeping you in suspense.
Perhaps the most thrilling aspect of Riverdale is the ever expanding web of characters and the unique backgrounds that each of them hold. Jughead is in a gang called the Serpents, for example, due to a long lineage of Serpents in his family with his father as the most recent Serpent king. Through this divide between the North Side and the Serpents comes a class divide that shocks the neighborhood and tests allegiances. Each character is not how they seem in the beginning of the show and the secrets that unfold constantly shock me even though I've seen a few seasons by now. This is not the type of tv show where you can passively watch it because one scene usually contains a lot of information regarding the current mystery. The mystery unravels throughout each episode and a new character's life is put to the test every season.
If this isn't enough, don't take my word for it and ask your friends, I guarantee more than a few are huge fans. I have always been a fan of murder mysteries and you can often catch me watching shows such as Scandal, Lie to Me, and How to Get Away with Murder. Each has the theme down to a tee but the plot line also maintains its uniqueness in an impressive way. Perhaps the closest tv show to Riverdale is Shonda Rhimes's How To Get Away with Murder. How to Get Away with Murder follows a group of law students who get caught up in a murder plot that they never expected. Fans of How to Get Away with Murder will know that Wes has a similar character development to Jughead. It's hard to not root for Betty and Jughead while Veronica and Archie take a close second in my book. Veronica and Archie are television's stereotypical jock and rich girl couple which, if you ask me, gets old after a while. I find the relationship between Betty and Jughead to be shocking and refreshing. Jughead isn't the bad boy you would normally think of although he does have those tendencies with a soft spot to him.
If you need me, I'll be on my couch watching the next episode.
