9 Reasons Why Pugs Are Wonderful

There are few things that make me weak at the knees: love notes, the smell of coffee in the morning, and most importantly, pugs.

I can't tell you the exact moment that pugs first caught my interest. All I can tell you is that there was a time in my life when I didn't fall into a fit of "aww" whenever I would see a scrunched-up-nosed, curly-tailed little dog walk my way.

Oh, wait, no there wasn't.

Some may say that they're ugly. They say that their bulging eyes look weird and that they're yappy barks are "annoying." Some look at their scrunched up noses and their stubby legs and turn up their own nose.

I'm going put those naysayers to bed and show you why pugs are absolutely wonderful.

They Are Adorable As Puppies

All dogs were cute when they were puppies, but pug puppies get an A+ in Cuteness 101. Their tiny features and huge eyes would make even the most devout cranky-pants giggle with joy. Their hearts are a full as their faces are scrunchy and their soft, floppy ears are to die for.

You Can Dress Them Up As Anything

They don't just put up with your strange desire to dress up your pet in odd costumes, but they rock it too! Since pugs are so tiny, the costume ideas are endless! In fact, there is a whole Facebook page dedicated to pug that likes to be dressed up. Check it out, here!

They Can Cheer You Up

Whenever I'm feeling down, I can always count on pugs to make me feel better. Something about their cute little noses and crinkles makes me believe that everything will be okay.

They Catch Colds

As cute as their little button noses are, they make pugs more susceptible to colds. Cuteness comes at a cost.

They Do This

Need I say more?

They're Lazy

Pugs sleep majority of the day, which makes them one of the most lazy dogs. But who doesn't love a good cuddle-buddy for midday naps or late-night Netflix binges?

A Group of Pugs Is Called a Grumble

This lady is truly living the pug lover's dream. She either seems really happy or really ungrateful, I can't tell because of the grumble of pugs.

They Are Loyal Companions

No matter, what you can always count on a pug to stay by your side no matter what you look like, what team you root for, or how much cream you take in your coffee. They are lovable, playful, and loyal. Young or old, pugs will be there for their owners until the end.

They Are Genuinely Happy With Themselves

Despite what people say about their looks, pugs are confident and happy with who they are and what they're capable of. And because they're so happy, they can make others happy too.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
