Why Publix Is The Best Thing To Happen To Miami

Where shopping actually is a pleasure.

When you hear your mom is going to make a trip to Publix you know she isn’t coming back for at least an hour or so. She will soon be consumed in the land of endless groceries and fresh produce. Walking around the fruit section makes you realize what GMO’s can really do to a strawberry because those suckers can get huge. I will never forget the times my mother has dragged me with her to help her complete her grocery shopping list and I would specifically ask her not to move from the section she was in so I knew where to find her when I got the stuff she asked for and every time, without fail, she would disappear. Getting lost in Publix as a little girl is NOT fun and I highly recommend never leaving your mom’s side

1. Free cookies

So the cookies are only supposed to be free for kids but I think they’ve discontinued that rule considering I get a free cookie every time I go to Publix and I am almost 20 years old. They aren’t out of this world but they’re enough to make you remember the times you were in elementary school and the teachers would surprise the whole grade with Publix cookies

2. The Cuban food.

Sure, isn’t the best most authentic Cuban food you’ve ever had but it comes pretty close.

The croquetas are best when they’re warmed up and the pastelitos are made almost to perfection. I recommend ordering in bulk because one of each won’t be enough.

3. Popcorn chicken

Popcorn chicken is seriously underestimated. It’s the perfect snack and the ones from Publix are superb. They are kept warm and crunchy in the heated glass compartment and ready to eat.

Ordering for big groups is perfect too because you get a full platter with honey mustard and bbq sauce to compliment. And might I add that it’s maybe the best munch food ever.

4. Cold cuts

Publix also has a full deli which my mother frequents every week to replenish the cold cuts in our fridge. They exclusively have boars head products only and let me tell ya it’s the bomb.com. Ham and cheese roll ups are the best after school snack and having such easy access to it is AMAZING5. Pub subs

5. Pub subs.

So these aren’t like regular sandwiches. This is like a homemade sandwich but on steroids. You can custom make your sandwich or wrap and put anything you want in it and even have the option to toast it or leave it cold. This is the easiest meal to pick up when you’re on your way to the beach and get hungry mid tan. They also have different kinds of sandwiches you can pick from like mojo pork sandwiches and chicken tender sandwiches.

Without a doubt I have missed getting my groceries at such a Miami staple and I make it my mission to make my way there at least once or twice when I visit.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
