Why I Am Proud To Be A Hufflepuff

Because Hufflepuffs deserve a little bit of credit for how awesome they are

For muggles who are unaware of what Hogwarts houses are, let me enlighten you. There are four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each of which, represent a different personality type or strength that a witch or wizard possesses. In the wizarding world, there is often a debate surrounding which house is indeed "the best." While it's ridiculous to put one house above another, these things typically happen anyway. In the many years that I have been a part of the Harry Potter fandom, it seems that of the four houses, Hufflepuff is given the least amount of respect. They are treated as a "lame" and somewhat incapable house, which is insulting. Being a Hufflepuff myself, I have come to realize that we should all want to be Hufflepuffs. In fact, the world needs more Hufflepuffs. Here's why I am proud to be a part of this incredible house.

One reason why I am proud to be a Hufflepuff is due to our caring, loyal, and dedicated nature. However, it seems that society deems these qualities to be a partial cause to our inadequate nature. When did the world view being kind as a weakness instead of a strength? Shouldn't we care more about the well-being of others instead of our own personal gain? Hufflepuffs, as a result of these endearing qualities, lead a more positive and uplifting lifestyle. Not to mention, the battle of Hogwarts for crying out loud. Of all the houses, besides Gryffindor, Hufflepuff was there from the beginning to the end. Ready to lend a hand to those who needed help, and to fight for the home they have loved dearly for so many years. The Slytherins? Yeah, they bailed from the start. Ravenclaw? Some left, some stayed. But their presence overall was definitely lacking. Every single one of the Hufflepuffs were there, putting their lives on the line for a cause they believed in. Beautiful stuff right there.

Despite what everyone believes, Hufflepuffs have produced smart and talented wizards. One of the highlights being mister heart-throb himself, Cedric Diggory, the Hogwarts Champion for the Triwizard Tournament. Part of what makes Cedric so iconic, was that he represented everything that was great about Hogwarts. In other words, he possessed the best qualities that can be found in all houses, but altered in a way that allowed him to remain true to his Hufflepuff character. Like Slytherins, he was ambitious in his quest for the Triwizard Cup, but made sure this ambition didn't change the way he treated others. Like Ravenclaws, he was intelligent, but remained humble. Like Gryffindors, he was brave in the face of death, not because of glory, but because it was the right thing to do. Not to mention, he was a fierce and loyal friend.

On top of all these wonderful attributes, statistics have shown that of the four houses, Hufflepuff has produced the least amount of dark wizards. Not surprising, but still an admirable fact to say the least. While all these Hufflepuffs qualities are fantastic, probably the best piece of evidence proving their worth, is that they are J.K. Rowling's favorite house. That's right, the queen has spoken and officially deems them her favorite. You can't argue with J.K. Rowling, you just can't.

While each house has positive and negative qualities, I truly feel that Hufflepuff is a house that stands apart from the rest and deserves to get proper recognition. Not to mention, their common room is right beside the kitchen and that's the bomb. Plus their mascot, the badger is totally hardcore and completely under appreciated. In conclusion, Hufflepuffs are pretty awesome people and in the wise words of J.K. Rowling's daughter, "We should all want to be Hufflepuffs."

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born.
