As someone who played sports in college, I have always kept up with my fitness in college. After four years of daily soccer practices, games, and off-season conditioning sessions, exercise became a part of my life that I could not let go. As much as I loved playing soccer, I was never really in love with it enough to go out for my college team. With that, I was on my own when it came to keeping up with my healthy routines.
Since then, I have always been a gym-goer. When I got into that, I had a personal trainer at the gym so help me get my feet off the ground. What I got from them was what to really do when going to the gym just to work out. From that, I have plenty of great workout routines in my phone storage but couldn't keep up with it because it was so hard to coordinate a time to workout with another person with my crazy college schedule. After knowing what to do on my own, I still craved more people and the sense of team I had from high school soccer.
With that, I became in attendance to a lot of group classes at the gym and have since branched out to private studios in the Fairfield County area. What I love about private studios is that there is a clear focus, and therefore you know you are getting the best of the best. For example, a few years ago I read about the importance of adding yoga into your routine. It is relaxing, a great stretch, helps with digestion, balance, etc. The list goes on and on. At a gym yoga class, I found that it was extremely distracting. While trying to find your center and be relaxed, you can hear the slamming of weights and the music blaring from the speakers outside. I was not getting the benefits I wanted from my yoga practice. I found the same thing with my spin classes at the gym. The spin studio is in the middle of the gym, closed in by glass, where it is very easy to look outside and be distracted.
After those two classes at the gym failing me, I went to private studios. Now I pay money in addition to my gym membership for amazing spin and yoga classes, and I am so not sorry. Each time I go to a spin or a yoga class at my private studios, I know I am going to have an amazing experience and get exactly what I want out of my workout. For this, the extra price is worth it. Furthermore, at the studios, you meet people that are there for the same reasons as you. With that, I have found the sense of team that I have been craving since high school soccer.
