For as long as I can remember, "Beauty and the Beast" has been my favorite movie. I remember relating to Belle more than any other Disney princess and loving her relationship with the Beast. When I found out Disney was making a live action remake, I was ecstatic and a little apprehensive. Still, I waited eagerly and not so patiently for two years. The live remake has been out for about a week, and I've already watched it three times, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. It's absolutely amazing. This might feel like blasphemy to some, but I have come to prefer the live action version to the original. Gasp! But seriously, hear me out.
1. Beast gets his own song
While he sings with Belle in the classic film, I always felt that Beast deserved to have his own shining moment, which happened in the 2017 remake of the absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking song "Evermore." I listen to it at least 5 times a day and will probably shed a tear each and every time. This song gives more of Beast's perspective, and this made the story so much better.
2. More characters get a backstory
It's understandable that the animated version didn't bother to explain much of the lives of its characters, but the story feels so much more complete when an explanation is given. Knowing more about the lives of the Beast and Gaston, especially, bring more depth to their characters and helps the audience connect with them on a greater level.
3. Belle is an inventor
As if Belle wasn't already badass enough in the classic. She just keeps getting better and better.
4. The cast
I won't lie, I was worried about the cast not doing justice to my beloved characters, but every performance blew me out of the water and made the experience of watching "Beauty and the Beast" magical.
I know many people will disagree with me, but I stand firm in my opinion. The classic animated film will forever hold a dear spot in my heart, but the crown has been taken by the remake.
