I'm sure you have all seen models, whether it be in magazines, on the television, or in the store. But, have you seen what they are calling "plus size" models? If you were to google "plus size models" hundreds of thousands of pictures would pop up. Some of them would be of bigger girls but a majority of them are of average women. Also, most of them are modeling bras and panties instead of actual clothes. One of the photos that shows up is this one: https://www.google.com/search?q=plus+size+models&r... Now, if you click on it, you will see that this woman has an average size waist, a flat stomach, and thick thighs. Just a news flash, this is not plus size! This woman is probably a size 12 or a size 14 and according to this website: http://www.cleveland.com/style/index.ssf/2010/08/s... size 14 is the size of the average women in the United States. So, is the average woman plus size? According to "PLUS Model Magazine," in the fashion industry, plus size is sizes 12-24. So, according to the fashion industry, the average American woman is plus size.
Now, for men it is called big and tall which is a more appropriate title, except for the fact that I am big and short. In my case, I have to buy short or petite pants or else I will be tripping over the extra foot of fabric. Anyways, it just upsets me that certain sizes are considered plus size when they shouldn't be. Another example would be Forever 21, and the fact that, according to them, XL is plus size. If you go to any other store 1X is the first plus size but not at Forever 21. Also, at Hollister they don't have XL in the female sizes but they have it in the male sizes, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Honestly, I think that we shouldn't have numbers as sizes. I once saw a commercial where the sizes of the jeans were "Strong", "Bold", "Courageous", "Gorgeous", "Loved", etc. and I absolutely fell in love. I think if I ever were to create my own clothing line, that's what I would do. I would have 00-24 because I would want everyone to be able to wear my jeans. And if you need a different size, we can make it for you. Well, that's just plan B, for if college goes down the drain. Haha. Tell me what your thoughts are on this issue in the comments below! I am going to post some pictures of "plus size models" below for you to examine.
