Why I Went Pi Phi
Lyric Urzetta

When I look back on my experience of going through sorority recruitment, it is marked as one of the most chaotic, exciting, nerve-wracking and incredible times of my life. I went through rush coming from out of state. I knew nobody in Louisiana, I knew nothing about sorority recruitment, I had no idea what was going on all week or why all these gorgeous women were screaming and clapping at me as I walked into each house. The only thing I did know was there was something different about the girls at the Pi Phi House.

Pi Phi made me feel good. I left each party with a smile on my face, and I hoped I would be invited back the next round. I felt included, I felt honored, and I felt loved. And the truth is, those feelings have never gone away. When I chose Pi Phi two years ago, I chose a home. I chose unconditional love. I chose a family, not a perfect one, but one that would encourage me, help me to be my best self and one that I know will be in my life forever. I chose 400 new sisters who have been there for me at every turn. They have cried with me, celebrated with me, laughed with me, made life-long memories with me, and so much more.

Aside from being best friends with the women in my sorority, I look up to them. They are honorable, philanthropic, passionate, and selfless women who are powerful and capable beyond belief. They look outside of themselves, and are determined to make a real difference in the world. They are real women who are doing really amazing things.I hope one day, I will be as bold and impactful as the women in my chapter.

Pi Beta Phi has given me more than I could ask for: a support system, a passion for serving my local community, a commitment to something greater than my self, sincere friendships, determination to push myself to be better, lasting memories, respect, a foundation of strong values, a home away from home, a place where I can always be myself and a place where I know I will always be loved

I have often heard the saying, “ Show me your friends and I'll show you your future.” Because I chose Pi Beta Phi, I know that I chose a future brighter than I could have ever imagined.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
