A book to me is a fresh take on the world we are seemingly trapped in, The author has a completely different view and creates an entirely new life and a new persona for each character and each word. Realizing that there is a world outside of my own and outside of that I have now and have had in the past is an amazing benefit and this is why reading is one of my favorite things to do, I love being able to lose myself into the world that the author creates.

  1. Being able to have the escape that authors are so kind to give us, a planet, a world, a city a town and a life that you will never experience but you can still fully feel.
  2. Going to the bookstore or a thrift store and finding a book, something someone has never read before or a book that has writing in it from its previous owners is a magical thing. Books have personality, the type that a kindle will never have.
  3. Sometimes your favorite people have written books, my favorite authors happen to be people who have experienced life, and those who have lived life by the side of many people of whom we idolized 40 years ago and still do to this day. And sometimes people who you could and would never be capable of connecting with that live in other countries and distant lands are writers and you get to experience them when you would not otherwise be able to.
  4. Books are good ways to connect to your friends and family, I always recommend a good read to my mom, to my best friends or even randoms I meet depending on how much the novel or book I’ve read has moved me. My friends often read the same books as I have and they send them along to their friends as well, making it sort of a chain of connectedness.
  5. Sometimes you buy a book simply because the cover art is something you’ve never seen before, unique and eye catching, and realize the book isn’t what you expected but books make great table décor too.
  6. Having access to an old book that has been sitting in your bedroom means that you can read it again and again, gift it to someone, but being able to keep a book around and relevant even after your finished with it is a beautiful thing
  7. By reading books you can learn about occupations you would have never thought about, know what a dream relationship is like and have recommendations for restaurants in any of your favorite cities.
  8. Some of my favorite books, aren’t even available online, on ibooks or on a kindle, which makes the paper copy even more special
  9. Paper books and reading in general is a sort of yield sign, calm down as a person and take some time for yourself, reading is supposed to be relaxing especially if you're doing it for pleasure.
  10. With a real book, if your phone dies, and every source of electricity runs out you can still sit there and read, books "never die".

There are obviously benefits to reading off a kindle and reading e books, but I will forever be mostly loyal to a good paperback novel. I hope to be able to maintain friendships I have and the ability to share my thoughts and appreciation through books.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."
