Why OTH (Kinda) Sucks

I love One Tree Hill, but there are some issues I'd like to address to all you fans.

Why OTH (Kinda) Sucks

Don't get me wrong, I love One Tree Hill. After only one and a half months, I am already halfway through the eighth season. However, there are some issues I have with this comedy/thriller/crime/romance or whatever the hell it is that I need to address.

1. The most frustrating thing about the show is how the main character, Lucas Freakin' Scott, left! His wife, Peyton Sawyer Scott left as well, but I don't really care for her and we'll get into that later. Lucas was, literally, the voice of the show. Later on, in season eight, they change the voice to the awkward braces wearing stage Jamie Scott which is weird.

2. How about how so many people almost died every damn episode that they should have had their own hospital wing? If someone wasn't drowning, getting shot or beaten up by a psycho stalker, they had heart problems or took steroids. I don't understand how one town can have so many problems. Let's not ignore how everyone seemed to be fine in the end with the exception of Keith Scott (which made me bawl like a baby; thanks Dan).

3.
Let's back up and talk about Peyton Sawyer (pre-Peyton Scott). For some reason, my friends adore her. I, however, see everything bad about her. First off, please stop crying or screaming. I have not seen her in an episode where she isn't complaining. Also, how about when she totally ignored Lucas until he started dating Brooke, then all of a sudden, she was head over heels for him. Or, how she denied Lucas' proposal then broke up ANOTHER one of his relationships. She is the reason girls look through their boyfriend's text messages when he goes to the bathroom.

4. Can I ask how Jamie Scott is mentally stable? He was kidnapped by crazy nanny, was bullied for wearing a cape (shout out to Chuck), almost drowned in a pool, dealt with his parents' depression, and almost drowned AGAIN while seeing his Godmother die then magically come back to life (like every character on OTH seems to do). But, he still manages to be the happiest kid ever.

5. in, I think, the 6th or 7th season, the producers, God knows why, thought it was a great idea to start remixing the theme song, "I Don't Want to Be," into country, rap, and whatever else they could get their hands on. I think they were trying to be cool and go with the then-generation. I, however, did not like it and was surprised with each new one.

6.Lucas and Peyton don't show up to Brooke's wedding. I repeat, Peyton, Brooke's so called best friend for ever and ever, does not come to her wedding. They claim her baby is sick but have they heard of doctors and babysitters? The least they could have done is send Lucas to the wedding. I mean everyone in Tree Hill had to suffer through a Lucas wedding, not only once, but TWICE (shout out to Lindsey).

7. Rachel marries Dan? Okay, I don't need to explain that one.

8. Why does everyone insist on staying in Tree Hill? There have been shootings, divorces, fires, stalkers, etc. You name something you wouldn't want in a town and Tree Hill probably has it.

Since I spent the last few minutes ranting about OTH, I will name five reasons why I love it.

1. Brooke Davis. Need I say more? This entrepreneur is a beautiful, determined, smart, strong. I live my life through her.

2. Naley. They proved to us people change, you can fight through the worst and make it out at your best, and when you marry someone as hot as Nathan, you can get the cutest kids.

3. The soundtrack. For people watchingOTH on Netflix, you will find yourself nostalgically belting out the lyrics to the greatest song from the early 2000s.

4. It's just an amazing show. Not only does it make you cry into your ben & jerry's, laugh so hard your roommate looks over, and sit on the edge of your seat (college dorm bed), but it makes you happy; just a general overall sense of warmth.

5. Last, but not least, Brooke Davis.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
