Why October Through December Are The Best Months
Holiday Stories

Everyone has their favorite time of the year. Some enjoy the season of spring, when everything is green again and the sun is back out. Others take pride in a specific month or date, maybe because something special happened to them then. I, personally, love many times of the year, simply because I always seem to have memories with them. However, a very special time of the year is coming up, and it may just be the best! October, November, and December are, without a doubt, the ultimate months, and here are a few reasons why!

October and the start of fall is great. The season itself is beautiful! Leaves are falling off trees, making fun and crunchy piles to jump in with beautiful color! The weather starts getting cooler, but fashion gets better! Leggings, jeans, scarves, boots, and flannels are all super cute and cozy! It’s also the start of all things caramel and apple flavored, like the caramel apple spice and salted caramel mocha at Starbucks! (Personally, I hate pumpkin flavored anything, but there’s that too…) Let’s not forget, either, Halloween is a great holiday! Who doesn’t love getting to be someone else for a night, getting free candy (or if you’re a college kid, another reason to get drunk), and watch old, Disney channel original movies, like Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown! (You know you love them. Don't lie.)

The day after Halloween is the start of preparing for one of the greatest, old American traditions, Thanksgiving! (Okay, it’s really the start of Christmas season, but I can’t just ignore the whole month of November.) How cool is it that we have a whole dedicated to just eating good food and being around family? (Apparently there’s a lot of football on, too, but I never paid attention to that…) This holiday makes me chuckle a bit, too, simply because I don’t know what I’m going to do when I have to make my own Thanksgiving dinner someday. I’m really not a good cook nor do I enjoy it, so I tell my family they’ll have to settle for a Charlie Brown thanksgiving, complete with a ping-pong table covered with a sheet, mismatched chairs, toast, popcorn, and jelly beans.

And finally, the one time of year we all look forward to, the one that adults claim to hate but also secretly love…CHRISTMAS! It really is the “most wonderful time of the year,” because really, what’s not to love?! We have ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas special on all month, complete with the classics, like “Santa Clause Is Comin To Town,” to “Home Alone” and “Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Happy, cheerful music is played everywhere you go, (like Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You) with beautiful lights and decorations! Snow will start to fall, too (I actually don’t love snow, but it’s still pretty and can get me out of class)! I still love to this day coming home to the smell of cookies being baked, and exchanging gifts on Christmas morning. And most importantly, we can’t forget it’s the day of the birth of the One who saved us. As Linus said, “That’s the real meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown!”

Call me a child, but the memories I have with these months will live on for the rest of my life. Even if you don’t have the greatest of memories with any of these three months, there’s always still something to look forward to and enjoy during the holidays! And the best part is, it’s all just around the corner!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
