Why I Am Not Proud Of The First Woman Presidential Nominee
Matt Rourke

In today’s day and age, there is a lot of talk about women's empowerment and how, as women, we can better change our communities. This week, Hillary Clinton, accepted the Democratic Presidential Nomination. It was a big deal for this nation’s history because she was the first woman Presidential Nominee. She is looked upon today as a leader who has changed her community through being First Lady, Senator, Secretary of State and now as a Presidential Nominee. However, some of her actions and messages have caused me to question her integrity as a person and especially as a leader.

I have been raised by wonderful parents that have taught me that honesty and integrity are morals to live by and lying gets you NOWHERE in life. They have educated me to seek the absolute truth in every situation. I keep up with the news and read a lot. I know my history especially when it comes to what goes on in the world. I listen and question. I am always thinking and processing what I see, hear, touch, smell and taste. When it comes to Hillary Clinton, I am not impressed. I have researched her history, listened to her message and seen her in action. The absolute truth, to me, is that Hillary Clinton is not a true leader. She is dishonest and has no integrity. She has only gotten to where she is by lying, cheating and using people for her own personal gain.

The reason behind my conclusion about Hillary Clinton is that this summer I read the book 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi by Mitchell Zuckoff. This really opened my eyes into the workings of Mrs. Clinton. After the attack at the ambassador’s home in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, the State Department was criticized for not granting the additional security requested for months on end. Clinton took the blame. A crisis could have been avoided if she only had paid attention. However, the problem has only deepened.

She used her personal email server instead of the official State Department email server for official communications on Benghazi and other work-related subjects. Many emails were considered classified by the State Department. Her dishonest actions were brought forth in hearings by United States House Committee on Benghazi and investigations about her email server were done by the FBI. On July 5, 2016, the FBI brought forth that what she did was careless, but no charges need to be brought against this woman.

Fun Fact: Did you know there is a rumor floating around that Clinton was fired by Jerry Zeifman for lying and dishonesty on the Watergate investigation?

I cannot even fathom to imagine what the survivors and the families of those who lost their lives in Benghazi must feel towards such dishonesty and recklessness not only on Hillary Clinton but also on the United States Government. If I were to do something like that, I would be in federal prison. I thought as a government official, you serve the people. You are held to a higher standard. When something is considered Top Secret to the government, you hold that secrecy especially when it comes to things such as national security. You are supposed to tell the truth, but there is a level of secrecy that is needed to protect the citizens of United States. Hillary Clinton has met none of these standards.

In recent news, this week was the Democratic National Convention. Wikileaks decided to put forth thousands of emails favoring Clinton as the Nominee and where officials tried to undermine Sanders. To me, the whole thing was rigged. Thus allowing the cheater, Clinton, to fully grasp what she wants most. The chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee resigned because of such controversy. Once again, Hillary Clinton is using people to get what she wants.

As a woman, I am not proud of her. She is not a leader. She is not a woman who can change her community for the better. All she has done is cheated and lied for power. She has used people. Hillary Clinton is deceitful. What I really think is at the core of her scheming actions is fear. She is afraid. She cannot simply win the right way because she is fearful that she does not have the guts, strength, and stamina to have what it really takes to win the right way. It is not women’s empowerment to do what she does. We are all afraid. Fear can consume you unless you can conquer it in the right way with truth and honesty. Not with lying and tricking. I am for a woman becoming president, just not Hillary Clinton.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
