As someone who is secretly fascinated by the shows “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” I am very shocked and frankly disappointed that Nick Viall is going to be the next bachelor. Believe it or not, so is my Grandpa.
For those of you who may not be familiar with Nick, he is popularly known from the season of “The Bachelorette” when he came in second place after Andi Dorfman chose Josh Murray. In fact, Nick was also in the recent season of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
When it was announced that Nick is going to be the next bachelor, I was screaming “no” for 10 seconds at the television in my family room and soon after, my nerves were shivering up my spine. I am getting sick of seeing him fail time and time again on these shows and I didn’t even think that he would qualify as a candidate this season.
In fact, based on the last bachelorette season with JoJo Fletcher who chose Jordan Rogers, I thought that the perfect candidate would have been Luke Pell. Luke was not only very polite and fun, but he was also a serious military veteran who did absolutely nothing wrong throughout the entire season and beyond. He certainly wasn’t the typical “bad boy” for that matter and this is one of the qualities that made him unique from the rest.
On the other hand, Nick is sort of a strange dude who likes to create trouble and doesn’t even have good eye contact when he’s talking to a woman and telling her how much he cares for her. How can he possibly be the next bachelor if he can’t look a woman directly in the eye when having a conversation? This is a huge red flag and I could definitely foresee this being something that the parents of the top four women in the next season won’t like either.
While Nick may not be as bad as Chad Johnson, the crazy guy on JoJo’s season, he is without a doubt on the lower end of the bachelor-worthy spectrum. And honestly, Nick has already had his chance on “The Bachelor” and “Bachelor in Paradise,” anyway.
It would have been the perfect opportunity to bring in a gentleman that is new, spunky and refreshing. But instead, Nick is back for love again. Even though this idea has left a bad taste in my mouth, I might have to watch this season anyway to see how it turns out.
Who knows? Maybe the fourth time's the charm.
