Why New York City Is The Best City

A few of the reasons why NYC is the best.

Why New York City Is The Best City

New York City is, hands down, the best city, and here's why.

1. It really is the "city that never sleeps."

At all hours of the day in NYC there is something exciting going on. From street performers to the sounds of the subway running by, there's never a moment you can't find something to do or some way to entertain yourself. The best part about a city that never sleeps is that bars and food can always be found open whenever you want it. Which leads me to No. 2.

2. The food possibilities

NYC is such a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds which lends to its extensive food choices. On any day you could eat anything from Greek to Ethiopian, to burgers and tacos. If you're a foodie, NYC is definitely the city to satisfy your tastebuds. And, because the city never sleeps, you can easily find a midnight snack at a food truck that satisfies any craving.

3. Entertainment

New York is, hands down, one of the most entertaining cities out there. But especially unique to New York are the Broadway shows and plays. On any given day there are hundreds of musicals, plays and off-broadway shows to choose from, often starring celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris or Denzel Washington. I suggest taking the opportunity to truly experience something that I find so unique to the New York experience, something you can't really get in any other city.

4. The People

Yes, people in NYC are some of the rudest, but that's definitely part of their charm. With a fast-paced lifestyle, it's easy to understand their no-nonsense, get-out-of-the-way attitude. However, while they are some of the rudest, there are definitely those that win you over with their generosity and willingness to let you in. More often than not, they're really good-hearted people that want to show you their city.

5. East Coast has the better hip-hop.

While this will be disputed, it can't be denied that hip-hop did a lot of it's growing and developing in the five boroughs. Some of the greatest hip-hop legends came from the city, such as the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, the Wu-Tang Clan, Nas and The Notorious B.I.G. However, even today, Jay-Z, A$AP Rocky and Nicki Minaj continue to top the charts, maintaining the fact that NYC still dominates.

6. Because Free Stuff

While NYC is and can be very expensive for living, eating and shopping, the best part about the city is that there is still so much stuff you can do without spending a dime! NYC has free kayaking for the water lover or even something so simple as experiencing the scenery with a walk through Central Park or the High Line. However, one of my absolute favorites is the free concerts, plays and events that go on throughout the city during the year and especially summer. It's easy to catch Shakespeare in the park or a free movie in Bryant Park, so go experience it all (since it doesn't cost a thing anyways).

These are just six of the many reasons why NYC is really the best place to be. With so much to do and so little time, go try to experience it all!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.
