Why We Need To Pay More Attention To Trump

It’s more than just the presidency.

Donald J. Trump has become a walking offense-vomiting candidate with no real plan other than to run his mouth. His random, unfiltered comments have created a controversy that’s more than just a trash-talking Republican; it's far worse than that. It seems Trump is starting to become the human manifestation of all that is wrong in our society.

Many people seemed to ignore the blatant racism and sexism that is inhered into Trump’s vocabulary because he followed up such traitorous comments with “make America great again,” or “unify America,” that somehow made up for the fact he could alienate an entire group of people without batting an eye. The list of people Trump has offended is vast and diverse, but it’s Trump's attack on women that is starting to wake people up.

It seems Trump is the walking, talking, human version of rape culture in America. The taboo topic is commonly preached by Feminists that people push off, but in truth, rape culture is something that needs to be talked about. It can be seen in how women must always be approachable to men, how we must dress and act, even in how we must give up our personal space because people around us feel entitled to our bodies. I can already see teenage boys clicking off the article and men huffing about how whiny girls are getting, but the truth can be seen in the outrage people feel for Trump's apparent entitlement to the women he meets.

Future fathers and brothers can’t just see women as daughters, mothers, and sisters, but humans. We all have our own unalienable rights to live how we want, where we want, however we want, but that title is overcast by our subtitles. We are not just “future girlfriends” or “one-night stands”, we are not inconvenient pregnant women, we are not just something to be protected, we are to be respected. Trump’s comments, which are so offensive they have to be censored out on public television, are reasons why we cannot allow Trump’s offensive comments to be okay anymore.

He has offended too many people, and continues to show that he does not respect the rights of American’s he claims to loves so much. He does not respect freedom of speech (he advocated to have journalists censored because he didn’t like what they said when they fact-checked him), he does not respect freedom of religion (his policies regarding Islam is detestable), he does not respect working class Americans (he often has been handed lawsuits because of his mistreatment of workers). He does not respect the United States of America, and he does not respect the voters. It is clear with every word he says, every tweet he deletes, and every time he disrespects one group of Americans, he disrespects us all. It's time we unite and remember what our country stands for. However you picture your perfect American Dream, Trump will not be the president to create it.
