Don't think you can enjoy a restaurant meal and do your laundry in the same venue? Think again. Charleston's Persimmon Cafe, located in College Laundry on the corner of Calhoun and Smith Streets, can make this dream a reality.Â
Persimmon's menu consists of gourmet panini, salads, sides, soups, and desserts accompanied by a rainbow of delicious drinks, teas, and custards. The shop's chalkboard menu features staple paninis and sides as well as rotating panini and soup specials (follow @persimmoncafe on Twitter to always stay in the know of the day's specials.) At unbeatable prices, you really can't lose.Â
Persimmon has a special place in my heart because it takes average sandwiches and makes them above average. Skip a ham and cheese on white and opt for Persimmon's Peachy Ham and Cheese on focaccia. Save the Kraft singles grilled cheese and Campbell's tomato soup and try Persimmon's Adult Grilled Cheese (with green apple and prosciutto) and tomato parmesan soup. Add a side of orzo pasta salad topped with a dollop of goat cheese, a basil limeade, and a chai dolce custard, and you probably won't be able to eat again for about a week. In the best way possible.Â
However, what makes Persimmon so incredible is its service. I have never entered or exited Persimmon without being greeted or sent on my way without a cheerful welcome or "have a great rest of your day!" They will immediately fix anything less than perfect, always refill your drink without even having to ask, and joke with you like they are your best friends.Â
Persimmon is infallible and perfect. Try the Caprese and you'll never look back.Â
