Why My Sorority Sisters Are My Role Models

Once a sister, always a sister.

KSU Greek Life

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go on a camping trip with a bunch of my sisters. I'm not the camping type, so I wasn't looking forward to this overnight trip to the woods. However, about an hour into the trip, I was having an absolute blast with my sorority sisters. I was not only getting to spend time with the sisters I'm close with, but I was getting to know a lot more about sisters I haven't had a chance to get to know. If I could take anything out of this weekend, it would be that my sorority sisters are some of the greatest women I've ever met, and I hope to be just as amazing as they are someday.

My sisters are so incredibly strong. On the surface, it's hard to tell what someone has been through. You have to dive deeper and really get to know them in order to see what they have gone through in the lifetime. Sometimes, it's shocking to see how many people have lost a loved one, been through something tragic or struggle within their own minds. But if I have learned anything from my incredible sisters, it is that they are stronger than anything. Some of them have been through hell and back, and they couldn't be stronger than ever now. I can only hope that one day I can be half as strong as they are.

My sisters are so open and loving. I have never felt more loved and supported than I have been this past weekend. There is nothing more reassuring than being told by multiple sisters that they will be there for you no matter what. That's what sisters are for, right? They are there to love and support you through everything you do, and somehow I have been blessed with over a hundred of them.Whether I've know a sister for a year or only a few minutes, I can have a great conversation with her for hours.

Being in a sorority may not be for everyone, and that's OK, but I wish everyone could meet and be loved unconditionally by hundreds of women all brought together by one organization. They say that you're born into this world alone and that you die alone, but I know that I'll never be alone because I know my sorority sisters will always be with me.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
