Why My Nieces Are My Best Friends

Being an aunt has definitely been an experience and it's one that I wouldn't trade for the world.

Why My Nieces Are My Best Friends
Jamie Ellsbury

When I was growing up I had older siblings so I got to experience being an aunt at a really young age. When I was younger I didn't really understand the whole aunt thing, I just knew that it meant that there were new babies in our family, but as I got older I was able to understand exactly what being an aunt is and now I can't imagine a life without them.

Although my nieces are a lot younger than me, I find myself learning new things from them all the time. They keep me guessing, keep me laughing, and remind me that I'm always loved. My nieces are my little best friends and I have plenty of reasons for believing so.

They keep me laughing.

My nieces are the funniest people I've ever met. They are so silly and do some of the cutest things, even when they make me mad I can't help but smile or laugh. They sing silly songs or dance around in the living room and you can't help but smile. Even whenever they call me JJ instead of Jamie because they know it aggravates me, I can't help but laugh while arguing with them.

They keep my imagination going.

I can't even begin to name the amount of times I've played dress up, played with barbies with them, or even done their makeup. They love playing games and I love being apart of them, it's something that I love doing because of the enjoyment they get out of it. Even whenever we play the same game over and over, after seeing them laugh and smile it makes it all worthwhile.

They let me know I'm loved.

When I first visit them after I've been away for awhile and they say "I missed you" or "I love you" and it warms my heart or when they yell my name and run to give me hugs when they first see me, I know I am loved. I always feel so loved when they crawl up on my lap or have me carry them around and I just can't help but squeeze them and kiss their little cheeks.

They inspire me to be a better version of myself.

Being an aunt is an amazing thing and knowing that my nieces look up to me definitely sets a higher standard. I want to be someone that they can look up to and be like. I want to be a person that they can turn to when they need a friend or someone they can trust. I want to work harder and be better. I want to be the best version of myself that I can be for them.

I'm so thankful for them.

I am so happy to be an aunt. It's the biggest blessing that I could have received and I can't even begin to say how thankful I am for them. Even when my nieces are driving me crazy or arguing with me, I love that we're so alike and I have little mini me's.

Being an aunt has definitely been an experience and it's one that I wouldn't trade for the world. These are only a few of the many reasons I enjoy being an aunt, but in my opinion they are some of the most important. Being an aunt has made me the person that I am today and it's completely changed my life for the better.

I'm sure, like me, many of you received lots of gift cards over the holidays. After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. Here are some times when you should be nicer to retail workers than you actually are!

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
