When I was going into freshman year, I was so scared that I was going to get an awful roommate. How wrong I was. Not only did I get someone who I could tolerate, but I got someone who has turned into one of my best friends, and I am so grateful for her. I think living with someone gives you a whole different perspective on friendship and here is why my freshman roommate is my best friend.
1. We shared our stress and occasional mental breakdowns.
Whether it was stressing out over school, money or just life in general, we actually bonded through our hard times. We were each other's backbone and even if it meant laying on the floor crying together, we both knew we had someone who would be there.
2. She saw me at my worst, but didn't run away.
Even at my grumpiest, she never took anything I said too personally. She understood me, and understood that sometimes I just needed my space. But, at the same time, she knew when I needed someone to talk to. She could read my mood just by the look on my face when I came out of my room, and knew exactly how to make me laugh when I was down.
3. We shared a true hate for mornings.
Starting off our day with a long, "I hate today" stare at each other and an occasional distressed moan, it was almost like our own little language. We knew to stay out of each other's way until about 10 a.m.
4. Even when no one else was around, we knew how to have the best time.
Things as small as turning off all of the lights and dancing around the room brought such joy, and those are the memories I will cherish forever.
5. Going out on the weekends was always better with you around.
If you weren't there, it was basically pointless to even go. Our crazy dances and obnoxious behavior that everyone around us probably hated is what I looked forward to at the end of every week.
Even though its a new year, you are still my best friend and I am truly blessed to have met someone as special to me as you are. As the semester begins, I can not wait to make even more memories with you.
