The first love of most girl's life is her dad. He's the first guy you have in your life. It hasn't always been easy for my dad and I, but he's always managed to be one of my best friends. I think this scene from one of my favorite movies, "Clueless," illustrates what it means to have a close relationship with your dad.
I'll be the first to admit that one of my biggest flaws/strengths is that I care too much for people too quickly. Throughout my life, it has led me to plenty of heartbreaks when I was giving 110% of myself, and getting nothing in return. But the one constant has always been my dad. For my entire life, I have never doubted that I could pick up my phone at any time and for any reason to call my dad and know that he was going to answer, and help me with my problem.
My dad is constantly showing me how to grow up. He was there when I opened my first bank account and got my first debit and credit card. He was the one who taught me how to drive. He watched me drive off in my first car. He was there after my first accident. He was the one who taught me how to use a lawn mower, and how to use power tools. He moved me into college. He is a big part of why I feel so independent and strong as I continue getting older. I'm sure this is true for so many girls around the world, but my dad in particular has done even more for me.
In a twist of events, I decided to ignore my parent's divorce custody agreement, and live full time with my dad. Nobody ever signs up to be a single dad, but my dad never hesitated to step up to the plate my sophomore year of high school. I'll never forget how he woke up extra early in the mornings to be at work just so that he could pick me up after school. And especially when he was only supposed to take care of me for half the week to then get thrown into taking care of a teenage daughter full time, he never made it seem like an inconvenience.
Although there were bumps, like any father and daughter relationship, there's no doubt in my mind that my dad will ever let me down, and for that he is a superhero in my eyes.
