Feminism (noun) - the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social and economic equality to men. We have all seen the shirts that say "This is what a feminist looks like." Many of us in this society say that we are "feminists," but by the dictionary definition, are you truly fighting for what you believe in?
We see feminism today as a way for everyone to have equality in this new day and age. Those who identify as feminists believe that they fight for those who should have equal rights, such as those who are transgender, and many others who are oppressed and yet feminists who are fighting the battle for equality remain silent on many issues that are not represented by a certain group.
Modern day feminists continually fight for equality, yet they have the name-base word "femin," which comes from the Latin word "feminus."
Yes, I personally believe everything that the feminists are doing and I understand the original concept of feminism because they are normally the ones oppressed, but as feminism has gained popularity, it has gained many other followers who identify as "feminists" for the wrong reasons. Modern day feminists should rather identify as humanists or egalitarians, rather than "feminists."
We often get the wrong idea about so many of our beliefs because we, as a society, like to twist things and make them into something that they're not, feminism being one of those things. So we must ask ourselves, "Are feminists even fighting for the right cause?"
