Why I Miss My Sorority

To the Crazy Organization: Kappa Pi Zeta

As post-grad life begins to settle in, I can’t help but get a little emotional about not going back to school. Of course, I should be jumping for joy because I graduated from the University of Redlands and took advantage of every class and travel course I could; but there’s apart of me that misses my sorority the most.

Pictures are being posted of rush and lip sync and other fun outings. One of my sister’s actually did a spread on sustainable clothing and reusing clothes. She took the time to take pictures of her sister and advertised it around campus. Shout out to Ali for that!

I miss the endless laughter that comes with a group of girls and the amount of craziness we get ourselves in and out of. I miss the long Sunday meetings we all dreaded to go and I miss Meatless Mondays and the urge to eat meat in front of the vegans because of their reactions (Ha.) But what I miss the most about Kappa Pi Zeta is the overwhelming amount of love we all have for the Earth. At school we spoke for the trees- no joke. We made presentations about recycling and how students could recycle on campus. We held film screenings to educate humans on where their food came from and how to live sustainably.

After I graduated I didn’t realize how uneducated people were about the world. At the ranch I worked at I set up a recycling bin and then sorted through the plastics each week to better the place I live. My co-workers probably got annoyed with me by the end of summer because I would leave little notes around the Staff Cafeteria about how to recycle cardboard boxes. Whatever.

Every single girl in my organization holds a dear place in my heart because of her driven personality to the change the Earth. So has rush comes to a close— I remind you all to be kind, mindful, and keep spreading awareness. It goes by faster than you realize. Enjoy the long meetings, the functions, the date nights, the parties, and the sister bonding events. You never know when you’re going to discover that kind of love again.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
