Sunday night, I switched my television from the Giants and Packers game to what I knew would be an equally entertaining matchup, the second presidential debate. I have always been the type of girl to have an outspoken opinion on government officials, but of course only at the appropriate times (or when filled with a little too much jiggle juice). But I've found that my friends have not always been the same. Maybe that's why I enjoy them so much – because we don't typically have conflicting viewpoints of party leaders and candidates. Nonetheless, at the same time, I also wished that they were more involved in our country's systematical beauty that is the democratic republic. With this horrific mess of a presidential race – my wishes have been granted. And I assume this is the case for many of the people alike.
That's why I believe this presidential race, as ugly and exhausting as it may be, is crucial for our generation. Maybe we needed the cockiest, more disgustingly sexist celebrity to run again an email impaired former first lady. Maybe that is the ticket to start getting people to look up and care about what is going to be the future of this country. We can't keep believing that we the people don't have a say or a true vote. We can't keep turning a blind eye at one of the country's most imperative decisions because it's too much to keep track of or a waste of time. The truth is, we need to be educated. The sooner we realize this, the better leaders we can have for this country. Also, the lower the chance of the estimated 19% of Americans moving to Canada is Trump does win.
Here's the thing:
Am I happy with the two major party candidates? No.
Was I happy to find out this was the most tweeted debate yet? Yes.
Do I think this input and participation from millennials will continue from here on out. I'm sure hoping it does.
Regardless of the outcome, I believe this race has helped out numerous young Americans find their voice and the ground on which they stand on. They now know what we need in a leader, and whether Trump or Clinton can execute this will show in time. There're only a few more weeks left until Election Day and I am positive that the traction will continue until then. But we've got another four years coming after, and to no surprise more to follow so we can only hope that this current craze will become a future norm.
