When I first arrived in Lubbock I bawled my eyes out for a week straight. The transition from a big city to a town that's known for absolutely nothing but "parties" was difficult. I compared everything and everyone to the environment I was solely used to in Dallas. As the months flew by I started growing a love for Lubbock, and going home for vacations only excited me for the people and not the city I had lived in for 19 years. I gathered four reasons that opened my eyes and heart to Lubbock, Texas, the friendliest city in America.
1. Texas Tech.
The city is home to Texas Tech and categorizes as a college town considering that Tech enrolls over 36,000 students. But hey, who’s complaining?! Looking for something fun to do? Everyone is welcomed just throw that red shirt on and scream your lungs out to the Fight Song (you might need to memorize the words before). Red Raider pride runs deep in the Lubbock community, you can hear “Raider! Power!” blocks away from the AT&T stadium, and if that’s not astonishing then I don't know what is.
Not to boost the best university in the entire state of Texas, but Tech is gorgeous! Everyone wants a boo that’s all about them, but what about a city that’s all about you, huh? Yikes! Dallas universities can’t relate. Tech is fortunate to be established in the friendly city that provides endless support and love to its main campus, and Lubbock is fortunate to have Tech who brings pride and incomparable entertainment to the city. Lubbock screams LONG LIVE THE MATADORS!
2. Lubbock will never leave you hungry.
It’s no secret that it is cheap to live in the Hub City in comparison to Dallas. Nonetheless, it is also cheaper to treat yourself to some savory food. I encourage you to bring your appetite here. There are a variety of restaurants to choose from and coffee shops. Try the popular and delicious Happy’s, exclusively located in Lubbock.
3. TGFNT!
Okay, you caught me, I totally invented that but, hello, THANK GOD FOR NO TRAFFIC!
Have you ever wondered how traffic starts? If we all just continue driving, then how in the world is traffic still a thing? Well, in Lubbock this is the least of your worries. Fun fact: you can get around most places in under 14 minutes; stunning, I know. A small city has its own advantages, less time in your car and high gas savings. Name a big city that can beat that. You cant, huh? Thought so, sorry Dallas. Dallas radio stations play this weird “you’re in traffic” song that makes you hate yourself, so you're blessed to live in Lubbock!
4. How about that sunset?
West Texas sunsets are artistic as heck, but you already knew that *winks*. Although the Dallas Skyline was named the best in the world, according to USA Today public who voted in the publication's Readers’ Choice 2016 Awards, there is no better relief than ending an exhausting day with an aesthetic view anywhere you go within the Hub City. It’s soothing to walk out after a long day and be blessed with the finest sunset. Dallas who? Yeah, the skyline is cool but it's not visible everywhere in the city.
