Why I Loved the Newest DC Film

In contrast to what most of the movie critics have been reporting, I found "Batman vs. Superman" to be an excellent superhero movie. In my opinion, it was one of the best I've seen in a while. For this article, I'm going to tell you all my top nine favorite things about this movie. (Warning: There will be spoilers, so don't read this if you haven't seen it!)

9. Ben Affleck as Batman.

I was a little hesitant going into the movie about how he was going to portray this beloved character and how he would compare to Christian Bale. Thankfully, Ben Affleck delivered an amazing performance and truly captured the essence of the character.

8. The scene with the Batmobile.

Batman drives through a brick wall, a ship, and takes a direct hit from an RPG, but the Batmobile is okay. This scene was definitely action-packed and thrilling.

7. The ever-present, contrasting motifs throughout the movie.

I also appreciated that throughout the movie, the themes of light vs. darkness, good vs. evil, and man vs. god were constantly present. The director and the writers did a great job of presenting some of these key contrasts in subtle ways throughout the entire movie just to remind the audience they were there.

6. The suspenseful dream sequences.

The dream sequences in this movie were numerous (which many of the critics have criticized and called confusing), but I found them particularly helpful in visually presenting the characters' hopes and fears. Also, not going to lie, a couple of the dream scenes made me jump because of their surpassing twists.

5. The dirt rising off of Superman's coffin.

During the entire funeral scene, we were all waiting for something to happen so that we could know that he wasn't really dead. DC did not disappoint, and at the end, they gave us hope through a few pieces of dirt.

4. Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor.

His acting was incredible in this movie, and he really made you hate him and fear his craziness as the movie's main villain.

3. Wonder Woman.

Let's face it, when she entered the battle, she kind of stole the show. After watching her fight scene in this movie, we all can't wait to see her in her own movie.

2. The setup for the impending Justice League movie.

When Batman hacked Luther's system and found the files about Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg, we all started to feel the rising excitement in the room.

1. The clash of these two titans.

The fight scene between Batman and Superman was epic. With Kryptonite on his side, Batman was able to kick some butt although Superman also put up a great fight. This fight scene was exactly the fight we were waiting for, and it's the reason so many of us came to see this brilliantly crafted movie.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
