Why I Love Women
Www.unitylasvegas.org

I have known many woman through the years. I have known women in my immediate family who I admired immensely. I have known woman who I was close to for awhile, only to grow apart. I have known woman to be friends who will always stay. I have known woman who I was friends with, but the friendship ended abruptly and on a negative note. I have known woman who have recently entered my life, and woman who have been in my life for as long as I can remember. I have known woman who are young, and woman who are young. Each woman is made up of a unique combination of internal and external features, and not even one has been anything like another. The thing is, I absolutely adore every single woman that I have met. Here are the reasons why:

I love women because each one has a really distinguished scent to them. Some smell like musky, expensive perfume. Some smell like cinnamon and sage, as though they just left the kitchen. Some smell like cheap, fruity body spray, while others smell like ocean breeze shampoo. Some smell like salty sweat, if they had no time for a shower, or just went for a run, and some smell like pages from old books.

I love women because they are the first ones to be kind when you enter a new situation. They are the ones to walk up to you on the first day of school or work, saying, "I like your shoes! Would you like to eat lunch with us?" Women are the ones to invite you to cut in front of them in a very long line, even though they have been waiting for who knows how much longer than you. Women stop to comfort crying strangers on a crowded street. Women smile at small children, dogs and carved soaps.

Some women are healthy, sprinkling chia seeds on top of everything, picking salad over pasta, making a point that they really think it tastes better anyway. Some women subside on chocolate frosting and tacos in Cool Ranch Dorito shells, cringing at any green vegetable. Most women eat somewhere in the middle.

Some women do something different with their hair everyday, fancy updos and curls or slicked straight against their face. Others prefer a simple ponytail swinging back and forth, or a sweet pixie cut.

Some women love math, some love to read and some love both just the same. Some love to take pictures, and some love to be in pictures. Some love to play sports, and some love to bake for their friends. Some love clothes, and some love to sing. Most women have a wide array of interests, and that is the best of all.

Lately, I have been aware of woman bashing other woman. My friends do it, I overhear strangers do it, even I do it. Ignore is invetible; we are all going to meet at least one woman who we do not care for. Still, we must respect all woman, and recognize the wonderful and unique qualities that each one holds. The day that we stop comparing ourselves to other women, the day we stop tearing apart other women, is the day that we, as women ourselves, will grow and grow. I just love women, and am so proud to be one

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
