Why I Love The Olympics

The Olympics are something that most athletes train for their whole lives. They dream to bring home a gold for their country and wear those Stars and Stripes with great pride. These games happen every four years and brings the best athletes from around the world into one area. Oh the Olympics, how I love you but why do I love you?

I love you because it puts a back burner to some of the games we are all used to liking like basketball, baseball, football and even soccer a little. It is bigger than that, it is watching volleyball, swimming, gymnastics and even track. It is learning all different athletes in all different sports from Michael Phelps to Simone Biles. It is allowing some of the newer younger athletes into the games and giving the older generation a chance to relax during the games.

Why I love the Olympics is because I love the tradition and the history. How it brings a nation together for two weeks to support their country in every sport possible. How it has the fab five, the dream team, the magnificent seven and the miracle. Maybe I think of the Olympics differently than most but I have always wanted an Olympic gold medal so I enjoy them just a little more. Maybe one day they will bring a couple more sports into the games like bowling or even bring back baseball.

The Olympics give you an appreciation for every sport. It shows the determination, the training, and everything you have to give up to be an elite athlete. It shows that every sport may be different call for different training techniques, but it is a lifestyle for an athlete. It doesn't down play any sport, but it gives every sport the recognition it deserves.

I love the Olympics because for sports that do not get a whole lot of recognition or praise, it gives those athletes a chance to shine and show how talented they are. It also gives those younger athletes who are aspiring to be an Olympian someone to look up to in their sport. A new face, a new name and a new desire. The Olympics give people something to strive for, something to be good at, something to put their life toward. It is not like basketball, football and baseball where may strive to be pro because those sports are not that big in the Olympics or might not even be there. To some, the Olympics are the end result and the determining factor of how great you truly are.

I love the Olympics because even in hardship it is hope that one day I can be just as great at something as an Olympian. It gives me that motivation, determination and drive to be successful. Sure I can't be an Olympian but I can still be successful in my everyday life. That is why I love the Olympics.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
